Interesting point, moms'folly. I've written about four different replies but deleted all of them. I don't know how I would respond. I hate the idea I would be forced to fight a war I don't like but I also like the idea of sending our politician's kids to war... that would change so much, they would be much more careful. If I were to pick right now I think I would agree with your comment. I'd sign up for the draft if I knew the children of congresspeople would be eligible. Still an uneasy feeling. I hope in the future we engage in wars we can win without people on the ground.

Totally off topic here...

I'm pretty liberal, as most of you here know. That being said; I love the idea of a draft, of mandatory national service for everyone. I like the idea of contientious objectors doing service in national parks, nursing homes, shelters etc. I love the idea of a military that is made up of everyone's children. Why? Because then everyone in this country has a real stake in how and where our military is deployed. The military is less likely to be sent out on the whim of a particular administration if everyone's kid is involved. It also give everyone a stake in voting. It gives young people experience beyond themselves, with people who may be very different from who they are. Makes national service to part of everyone's psyche. And yes I think both males and females should be involved.

And for a final note, I am a parent.
I would pity the poor drill instructors in an army made up of today's draftee's....It's illegal to force the little chunkers to partake in PE, which has been done away with in many school districts. Can you imagine the lawsuits, when junior says he was abused.

It's not illegal to enforce PE, lol. It's just the first program to get cut... which is sad. Considering how many Americans are obese? like 34%? I think PE is a little more important than, say, philosophy??\

edit: and I'm also sick of this crap where we don't keep score. I played baseball for 8 years. I loved it. I had one championship season and several losing seasons. The championship season wouldn't have meant a thing if I hadn't lost so much. We need to stop worrying about everyone's feelings. Comes a point when we got to be real.

North Korea has male/female military. It's sadly the only strong thing about that country. They make the males/females shave their heads so combatants have a harder time telling the difference. I would never want my wife, girlfriend, sister, whatever to fight in a war.. but who really wants their family to go to war? I mean no offense to military families and members, you guys are great.. but it's always going to be scary.. even if we are fighting countries that we deem "uncivilized."

About the beer, Royd, I could do that. I just am afraid of your reaction when I pop the top of an imported brand

I have been labelled TMIMITW by Em, so I drink DosEquis....I was doing dark beer before you were born.

Yes, Royd, you were chugging mass dark beer during prohibition. Nobody has ever tried to refute that fact

On that we can agree, but the question is, where did this mentality come from? We can't keep score because someone will be feel left out or left behind....We can't choose sides, because someone will always be last. We can't play Red Rover or dodge ball because, again, there's only one winning side and darn it, those dodge balls sting, when hit in the face.

And I was drinking dark beer and eating fried mushrooms in Quonset Point, Rhode Island in '72.

Oh wow... You really think the presidency couldn't provide a false BC if they wanted to? Like a bunch of Ron Paul fans could sit at home and decipher it and solve the ultimate mystery as to where our president was born? I am sorry, Royd, but if you are still hanging onto the birth certificate I do not know how you expect anyone in their right mind to take you seriously.
Hey...I'm a Ron Paul supporter, and don't even think about the birth certificate debate. I think it is nonsense.
