Here are some actual facts about contraception...who uses it, what methods are used, what the failure rates are, how many employer based insurance companies cover it (9 out of 10), etc...

These numbers tell the real story. Most sterilizations are still done on women rather than men, at a rate of almost 3 to 1. More woman use the pill than any other method. Younger women and teens are the most likely to rely on condoms, but the majority still rely on the pill. Pulling out works better than natural family planning.

Enlighten yourselves. Preventing pregnancy is probably the number one health concern of any woman of childbearing age. For most women that is in the neighborhood of 40+ years. For myself, in 25 years of marriage, only nine months of it, discounting time pregnant, was spent without some form of birth control. Based on my fertility, without birth control my insurance company would have paid for approximately 15 live births, 7 miscarriages and all the health risks associated with over 20 pregnancies.

So it was about risk control...I want my auto insurance to cover my brake repair so that I don't cause thousands of dollars of damage to myself and others....And my wipers, They broke during a rainstorm and It was out of pocket for those repairs.

You could have had your own reality show and made millions.

Yep, I get pregnant real easy, but only two out of three made it. For us, trying consisted of going off birth control. It took no date checking, no working out when I might be fertile. All it took was NOT using contraception.

Insurance companies aren't making the arguments about not covering birth control. They are expert at playing the numbers. It is middle aged white guys trying to control women's options.

Cars aren't people. Insurance covers all sorts of preventative care. That is one of the goals of lowering the cost of medicine. Preventing illness, injury and pregnancy are cheaper than paying for illness, injury and pregnancy. Insurance pays for vaccines, prescription meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol, for stomach bypass etc. It is cheaper to prevent than to treat. Preventing pregnancy is a large part of women's health care.

That is why insurance companies are not the ones fighting the BC coverage clause.

Most states have some sort of inspection law. If your vehicle isn't safe, it is usually not even legal to drive, but your private insurance will still cover damage caused by a wreck even if you are driving an unsafe vehicle. Your company may not like it and you will likely see an increase in your premiums, but they will pay, not the state.

A child born into poverty, often a result from an unplanned pregnancy, will only have state "insurance," thus it IS better to take inexpensive precautionary steps to avoid this.

That has always been the problem with insurance.. There are too many blanket coverages, with the companies totally in control of the contracts...Take it or leave it...If I live a certain lifestyle, I should be able to opt out or into certain amounts of coverage for a particular item....If I'm someone who runs 20 miles a week, and know that my heart and associated system are healthy, I should be able to buy insurance covering joint wear....There is absolutely no reason for me to pay for hair transplants, liposuction or tummy tucks.

I should be able to buy a one payment policy for catostrophic coverage if I can afford the premium, instead of being milked every month for the rest of my life, with no control over the raising of rates.

If I choose to set up a HSA which is totally mine, to be passed on to hiers, that should be my option.

There are plenty of good ideas out there, it's just that the govt. wants everyone under their heavy hand of control. If it weren't so, then why the new army of 16,000 IRS agents? BTW you do know what happens when you don't pay your income tax? Property and assets are siezed....Personally, I think that's the end game of the whole healthcare mess...It isn't about being the benevolent dictator.

House is majority republican...so I stick to the statement that it is a republican controlled congress.
Take a civics class.

So it's a social issue.

I don't think anyone is against an insurance company covering whatever it wants. Models often time get insurance on their legs and body. I am against the government forcing an insurance company to cover something. If a woman found out her insurance didn't cover Birth control don't cry to the government to force them to cover it you switch insurance companies.

There you go with that free choice thing, that's not the plan. You are not smart enough to make your own choice. The government will do a much better job then you at making your choices. So please be quiet and get in line.
Don't forget your kool-aid
