The Health Care Law.

If, as you said earlier, the new law obliges you to buy private insurance, what's that got to do with taxes? Or are you taking the view that compulsory insurance is a tax?
That was why it went to the supreme court. To decide whether or not it was a fine or a tax when you get fined for not having health insurance.

None of you has yet experienced the effects of this new legislation but some are assuming the worst and inventing the rest. If you want to see how a developed State health care system can work for the benefit of both country and individuals, get a passport, buy a map to find the way out of your town and fly to Europe, Australia or New Zealand. You won't get free health care yourselves but you would be able to see how the system works and develop better informed views.

The argument against taxes for personal benefit is a dead duck. Don't you pay taxes for roads, for example? Or do you buy your own bit of road to get around on? What about the police force? Do each of you employ a policeman for your own personal benefit?

Can someone post, please, an official summary of what's being discussed here? I mean the health care law.
It's a tax on gasoline. If you rode a bicycle all your life, you'd get off free...Even some politicians are complaining about that.

It's 2700 pages of legalese, designed for nothing but confusion, and overlapping bureaucracies. There is stuff in there that has absoultely nothing to do with healthcare.
Additional tax on the profit of the sale of certain homes, The whole thing is designed as a huge money grab, and at the end of the day, when you can pay no more, they'll probably come for your property.

Yes, I understand that it's a compromise. Do you have a note of the provisions of the law that can be posted here?

So you can read the bill? This is where most of the confusion and anger originates. No one knows what is really in it. It is 2000 pages long, and even the politicians are clueless about what they passed into law.

The new tax on people who dont currently need to use thier insurance, is also paying for it for them when they need it.
But people who can't afford it now can walk into any emergency room and get care. They are going to be doing the same thing and those who can pay, will just be paying more.
It is all nothing more than punitive class warfare.

Wow! I wish the govt. would give me free money to encourage me to work. What a great concept....Sort of like free school loans to encourage you to study.
I understand the cynicism, but there are problems in our country, and I do believe this is one step that will has positive results.

We really should encourage educational pursuits, but this doesn't mean I agree with the current educational system. I'd love to see free education for nurses and doctors in exchange for services. Of course health care is expensive; doctors often end up with hundreds of thousands in student loan bills...

It was and is a vote buying scheme, something for little of nothing. Another great concept.
ha..neither party would have support if they tried cutting Medicare....my point. People like it - government run health insurance.
