So children should suffer due to your disdain for their having "crappy parents"? That makes a lot of sense, you have convinced me - those kid should have picked better parents! Playing the blame game doesn't solve social problems for those who cannot provide for themselves: Children, elderly, infermed and the disabled.
I am a firm beleiver that unfit parents should have thier children removed at a certain point. Half the U.S. budget is spent on social programs. Social Security was originally sold to Americans as a right. In Portland we spend 15,000.00 per student a year for schooling. We take very good care of the weak in this country but you cannot entrust that care to worthless parents and that is exactly what we do. I met a man today that manages 8 low income housing projects. He told me some things about the tenants that would boil your blood. He chose that career because he said the low income housing is booming.

Did you see my post about Denmark and unemployment ?

Yes. I found it interesting. Without really examining the data with concern as to the type of welfare, makeup of the families and other resources that may or may not be available in that country, I can't count it as anything but anecdotal at this point. So I will have to dig before I can comment further.

And what should we do with these removed children? You do know that we used to do that and it didn't really work. You also should realize that we stopped doing it because among other things it causes irreperable harm to those chilren, right? More punishment heaped upon children for the unfortunate circumstance of their birth. Again, if they had just picked better parents they wouldn't have to suffer the trauma of being taken from their blood relatives and raised by strangers paid by the state. Great idea.

Yep,..if you cant feed your kids then they need to be placed in a stable home. Sure, everyone has bad times sometimes... but to stay on it for years.. to keep mooching. Something needs to change here..

You sure it doesn't work? Any trauma beyond starvation really is mute.

What about all of the negative effects on these kids? A lot of research has been done on bonding and familu ties and it has been found that removing children from thier parents is pretty harmful and produces psychological problems, etc. That is a big part of the reason we stopped doing it. Also, being poor does not make people bad parents or bad people.

Yeah, I'm sure a huge body of work has been compiled on the subject, heres a good summary which I am sure you will ignore: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...2rSLCQ&usg=AFQjCNGbOOtblayyR8OOCk5Bwp3nJK4OPw (Oh yeah, also most of your examples are either "orphaned" or infant adoptees - that is not the same as removed by social services and placed in orphanages or foster care.)

hers a link about how great most foster kids turn out: http://tucollaborative.org/pdfs/Too...ks/parenting/Factsheet_4_Resulting_Trauma.pdf

And another one for you not to even read or consider: http://www.liftingtheveil.org/foster14.htm

That link has a virus or something my computer would not open it.

The good out weighs the bad in my opinion when the decision to remove kids from an unsafe environment to one that is safe. There was a case recently where a caseworker was supervising a visit with the bio father of some kids and he took them in his house and shot them and himself.http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/11461356-powell-boys-this-was-an-act-of-evil He actually blew the place up.

You can treat negative effects you cannot treat dead kids.

Pretty Irrelevant. It was a custody dispute and he was a crazy person. Has nothing to do with the topic of removing children from poor parents and how harmful that is. But if we were talking about poor handling of vidsitation by judges and social services, you would be right on the money. Try one of the other links.

Here's your statement: "As I have said before, it's time to bring the troops home from that War on Poverty. It's going on a 50 year war, and we are throwing money into a black hole." So yeah. it is going to be those who live in poverty who will pay and most who live in poverty are women and children. End of story.
Have you ever seen a female hobo?
