The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I was just out really looking over my Nelson Cockerels. Thought I would post a few pictures that I took. These are of 3 different birds. The first 3 Pics are of the one that I'm planning as of now to use for my first pick breeder. The 4th pic is my 3rd pick and the last 4 pic's are of my 2nd pick. The first pick is in a pen by himself because he got a little feisty with the other 2 early on so he was put in solitaire for being a bad boy. lol The second pick is just not quite as big and my third pick is really chunky but not as tall. Come on now, pick them apart. I've gotten broad shoulders so say what you like. I tried to get different poses of them so you can see them pretty well. It is a gloomy day here in SW Pa but it let the true colors show up better then lots of sunshine. Come on Jeff, hit me with your best shot. ha, ha. Oh, forgot to put that these boys are 6 1/2 months old. Hatched 4/5/12

Below is the chunkier one, pick #3

Below is my #2 pick

He likes to pose for the camera. ha,ha

Thanks for all the kind words. I have plenty of passion, developing patience has been a challenge for me.
I don't see how breeders of animals that have longer gestation can take the waiting. Cattle and horses for example.

Good looking birds.I like the look of your #2 also. He has good length and brick shape. He is young so he is going to fill out very nicely.

Good work

Thanks Jeff,
Got to tell you this. I hatched 10 chicks out of this group. I ended up with 7 pullets and these 3 cockerels. One pullet was dead in the coop the morning after I put them outside, I think she broke her neck getting on or off the perch. In the first shot of Pick # 2 you can see the tail of one of the pullets that only grew to about 3 months then stopped growing. The other 5 pullets are all nice. So you see, I didn't pick out the best ones. You see all of them. lol I've posted every one of this group of Nelson birds at one time or another. I wouldn't put the nicest strawberries on top of the basket and little ones underneath. ha,ha
Now with the Mohawks, it is a different story. I started with 24, lost 5 between 3 days and 3 months old then lost then lost 2 more after putting them outside. Right now I have 5 pullets and 12, yes, 12 cockerels. lol They are all really shabby looking right now. Seems it is taking forever for them to feather out. Some of them look like a real Mohawk. One or two tail feathers sticking up. Most of them have no tail feathers at all. lol
Did I read where someone said PATIENCE? ha,ha.

I have a few eggs in an incubator right now. I hope they look as handsome as yours...

LOVE my Heritage RIR's. This will be my 3rd hatching. I started out with my originals from shipped eggs which I hatched and after they started laying, I hatched some eggs from that group, and they looked better so I bred them and hatched those eggs now I have eggs from that group that are in the incubator now. Mr. Robert Blosl has been immensely helpful with all of the information I have learned from his posts and website. I am showing some of my Mohawks at a show next month.
