The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Thats good to know they came from your lines.

I called him up and ask him if he left her on purpose but he said he thought he grabbed everyone but nope forgot the one. He told me I could have her since he was an 1 1/2 hr from the show on the way home and he didnt want to turn around for her.
He had really good looking birds Judges had a hard time chosing beteween my bird and his there was lot of check marks on the cards LOL.

hey, i have been scouring this thread. i am looking to start a good old fashioned flock, not show quality, but i just want to make sure i start with some good birds. and what a wonderful job you all are doing to educate the public on this breed. big time hats off to bob, he is so very helpful with all the info - and i don't mean to slight anyone. out of all the breed threads i have read, you guys are wonderful.
but my query is this: why hasn't anyone brought up the subject about the auction for the rir's going off in a few days? i haven't seen anything about the source of these birds - could have missed it of course. based on the auction price, is this what a newbie would have to pay for a dozen eggs?? i hope i am not stepping on anybody's toes. just want to know. thanks.

whos selling eggs?? are the true Rhode Island Reds or producition reds. Be care full or you may be getting those heavy layer kind of light colored chickens.

Take you time and research this process. There are very few good breeders who will be selling their eggs. Tons of hatchey stockl will sold.. If that is what you want save your self the trouble and just order chicks from Idel Hatchey. They are half standard and half hatchery.

What state do you live in? bob

the auction is on page 3 of the eggs for sale. could just be a case of auction fever but the pics are beautiful. but the price - whew!!
we're in so central pa. i know the risks inherent with buying shipped eggs but actually prefer to do so for various reasons. you say most breeders won't part with eggs but do you know of anyone who has a layer flock - of good quality heritage lines that does sell and ship eggs? thanks for your help and this great thread.

Recently on craigslist I saw an ad for RIR chicks. Upon reading I discovered the breeder was selling chicks from a RIR over sex-links!

Sorry dude, those are hybrid mutts! (Says the lady in love with her flock of mutts...)

Other people might not care about the difference, but I do. If ANYONE on this list has a cockeral they need to cull from their programs, please let me know! I would like an eventual small flock of heritage RIR, but I'd rather start small. My group of mutts and hatchery birds are my pets, but as they die of natural causes or get culled it would be nice to replace them with better stock. I'm no expert, but these "mixed assorted males" I got last year don't look "right" to my vision of what a RIR cockeral should look like. I guess I've looked at too many pictures here and now I'm getting picky, lol. Thank you all for starting this thread and contributing knowledge and pictures. You all have taught me much!

If you have any extra roosters or cockerals and are within a seven hour drive of Suffolk, Virginia (23434), please PM me!

Hi, I could not find the page with those reds on it. By any chance was it the beautiful New Hampshires that Kathy has?
