The hunting/fishing thread!

Finished the mount for the little 6 point today.

Took a walk across the road where I shot the buck to see what there was for sign, and found the little spiker I had been seeing before I shot the big one. 😥 He was in the bedding area, so I'm guessing he got arrowed and went to his home base and died. I don't think coyotes would have gotten him if he was healthy.

Just like clockwork, I had a buck come in on me and I couldn’t get a clean shot but at the same time mr muddy almost got a 2fer on does and dropped the larger one.
Let her hang overnight…….cold deer is much more difficult to skin and quarter 🫣
Congrats. Making meat...
I agree skinning a deer is a little tuffer on a cold deer, but I prefer to skin cold. Warm skinned the meat gets a outer dry layer that's a pita to remove.

The dreaded lock down phase. Bucks are not leaving a hot does side. She often beds in the thickest nastiest stuff to keep the buck from chasing her. He will stay with her until she is ready to breed, only moving to chase others bucks away from her. Spotted 3 different bucks today doing just that. One I would have taken in a heartbeat, but he was 80 yrds out and it's still archery season. Rifle starts Saturday.

Opening day for rifle is tomorrow morning. There will be 5 of us on two neighboring properties totaling almost 400a. The other group of 8-10 guys will be spread out over multiple properties.
We're hoping to have a few nice bucks on the ground by the end of the day, but it's hunting, and the deer don't often read the play book, lol.
Good luck!

First time this year after these guys for us. 😁
