The hunting/fishing thread!

Pics
did a little bit of fishing this year. don't got any hunting seasons really. only ones left are wolf and ptarmigan (i want to hunt ptarmigans only issue is there like 8 hours north of me with like 2 hours in the bush before any good hunting)

wolf i could but again am a trapper so i can trap and shoot as many as i like on my land (during season of course)

and of course the open seasons coyotes, skunks, raccoons, rabbits and hares.

That is crazy!

This map pretty accurately describes our winter weather… although the “many bread and milk scares” line goes a little higher than that in our region. Dad and I were joking that they haven’t run out of milk in the grocery store yet (it is supposed to snow this weekend), they were running low on eggs though! Can’t belive how much ”fancy” free-range eggs cost! They now sell duck and quail eggs at our grocery store too, although today was the first time I had seen blue eggs at the store!

I'm in the "how do people live here on winter?!" Place 😅

And what's the bread and milk thing?

That means that everyone is terrified of being snowed in and not being able to drive anywhere and/or that the grocery stores will be closed, so they buy tons of bread, milk, and water (they do the same thing when there is a hurricane). When it snows here, or even when it is forecasted to snow but doesn’t actually, EVERYthing closes, and I mean everything. It is supposed to snow less that 1 inch tonight and our local gym is already closed tomorrow.

I can't stand it how people will spend 10s of thousands to get a trophy tag and then end up getting one and and then they just cut off the head and leave the rest for the birds to eat
i can't either. in my province (Saskatchewan) its illegal to leave any meat in the field from big game. (with the exceptions of wolf and black bear which in my mind black bear is one of the best eating animals out there)

I really like trapping but I don't know a whole lot about it but do you use homade traps or store bought?

For the schools in our town to close We'd have to get 5 feet of snow

I just think that is hilarious!

i use store bought traps. here in Canada we have the humane standard of trapping which mandates traps be humane (which is a good thing) you guys in the states signed a different agreement with Europe (far as i know they would not buy the fur if it was not caught in a humane trap)

You can imagine I found it equally hilarious when I went to my grandparent’s house in Pennsylvania and saw all the weather reports warning of “high heat index; stay inside, drink lots of water, wear hats!“. Weird to me as a North Carolinan, we get 100 degrees regularly in the summer with high humidity and nobody needs a special weather report! Granted, we don’t get the extreme temperatures like in Arizona/Deep South.

Hunting in Utah. The pheasant was shot by a son, the Antelope by a grandson. :)
