I have a question about beak and leg colors. I believe black and blue orps should have black? Is that correct? So is there any chance of the chicks I just got changing colors as they age?

I see you are in LA, what part? and where did these chicks come from?

I really hope not. These are supposed to be Blues and Black for my daughter to show. They are from The Hen House in Callahan FL. We live in Denham Springs.

Yes, the legs and beak do change color as they grow. I was confused by my first blacks to hatch as well. But black orps are all born with that penguin look and white feet. Then all but the bottoms gradually turn dark.

I haven't had a chance this week with the holiday and all to get new pics but I love

seeing all your beautiful babies!! (and big guys too!).

Once again I am going to stray just a little from the Opries to share some information about a product that I use in my coops, Stalosan F . It is a disinfectant, drying, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal powder, amonia elimator (yep, powder

) that you apply when you change the bedding. It is safe enough to use even with the chickies in the coop (won't hurt them if they eat it either) actually it is safe for all animals, including dogs and cats (kills parvovirus as well).

I have seen on some forums readers asking if anyone has ever used this product and I have been using it for a couple years and may be able to answer questions if anyone has any. The is no other product like it. It has been around for over 40 years but only in the USA for a few years. It is a product that everyone should at least research for the health of your chickies (and you).

Everyone meet Sir Edmond. He is my very first Jubilee Orp. He is right at 4 months old. I have blue and black UK orps but was very suprised when I opened the shipping box at his size. I wasnt expecting him to b as big as he was for his age. He weighs 7lbs and 1 ounce already. He had sticky watermelon juice all over him from the trip and I had to give him a warm bath. It was dark by the time he was fully dry so I brought him into a spare bedroom and threw an old blanket down for pics. He was origionally purchased as a chick from Greenfire Farms and was an extra roo. He is so friendly and beautiful and we r very excited to have him here at the farm. We plan to keep him as a pet and to one day find a lady Jubilee for him.

Thank u so much Kelly! U were truly a pleasure to work with on this transaction and we r very pleased with him. I gotta say your pictures dont do them justice on size and doubt mine will either.

Yes that is the problem, so getting a vendor to stock it in your area would be the answer.

I am going to contact someone from TSC's (Tractor Supply Company) ordering department (corporate I suppose) and see if they are interested in stocking it. I know they would do well with it. It is just a matter of getting the information out there. There really is no other product like. Due to the size bags you almost have to get it locally or pay double - that's what I do

.........pay double...... but I love the product - and it does go a long way. Work on your local feed dealers as well!
