Oh boy.. it is going to be a great day! Got up this morning to the sounds of chicks hatching in my new bator Then turned on the comp to see such lovely Orps... YEAH... It's going to be a great day

The weather was so nice today. I got a chance to take some pictures of my juvenile pullets.

We must have been posting at the same time and I missed these pretty girls. How old are they? Does the lacing come in early?

Dee they are sooo pretty! (did you really grow your own mealworms?

Mealworms are soooo easy to grow. You feed them once a week and really that's it! The beatles don't fly or bite, the worms can't scale the container. Mine are on organic bran as their bedding, which they eat, and I feed them organic raw veggies that contain moisture (potatoes, carrots, corn...) Use whatever you can spare. They multiply like crazy! If you'd like to get a colony started, I can send you some beatles. I have literally hundreds. Some on BYC have really complicated ways to grow them. My orps will run across the entire yard if they see a container in my hand. I use to feed them right out of my hand, but now they get too excited and their pecks kinda hurt! You can tell my babies are spoiled because if you offer them freeze dried ones, which you can get at WalMart, they just look at me and walk away. Geez.

Boys will be Boys- Never gets beyond playful so it's fun to watch. You can almost see them watching me to make sure I see them

They like to hide in the rolls. If you don't want to handle them, you can pick the roll up and shake them into a container. They love a dark (and warm) location. Mine are in the garage, so they hide there sometimes. I don't mind scooping them out. Don't place the container where you might spray for pests! My bug lady knows not to spray near them.

I grow these things too. But, I have a hard time keeping moths out of them. I can't spray the house for bugs since I keep cage birds in here but I just about have them all out of here except there's still some that I just can't figure out where they're coming from.

Anyway, moths will just devastate your mealworm farm. If you don't have that problem though, they are just incredibly easy to grow.
