The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Oh boy its a wicked winter for sure..all you can do is batten down the hatchs and wait for spring..has been very mild summers .

thanks everybody ..we enjoy the brief fall season..those trees are blinding on a sunny day

Its a stones throw from a lot of poultry shows , watkins glen racetrack, countless award winning wineries..we hope to in the future have some guest cabins ..this property borders state park..a poultry show every weekend..the farthest show is 3 hrs or so..most are under 2 hrs from here..

Im trying to talk Vickie into coming up in the future and show those buffs!

Roger, that is my favorite chicken ever..we get a laugh a day out of that chicken, if hes not galloping around the yard looking like a giant dust mop, hes hiding behind my chair safe from hawks..you can here him talking back there behind the chair saying who who who..I say what are you an owl? takes his time coming out for breakfast looking like an unmade bed..I have to have more of these birds!!..we are doing a childrens book about boo boo, his trials from hatching to weasles..lot of work in that..

this area is chemung valley, named by natives long time ago, it means land of the big horn..thier legend is there were big herds of woolley mammoths and mastadon here..the other day a fog bank settled into chemung valley , looks like a lake but its not, just very thick fog.. view from my driveway.

cheap camera doesnt capture the vivid colors well.

It was SO spooky one morning when my sister and I were on our way to the mall in one of these fog banks, my sister said LYNNE, LOOK GHOSTS!! There were all of these soldiers out in a feild revolutionary war uniforms you could make them out through the fog....very spooky..come to find out they were rev war re-enacters ..2 of them were walking along the road, we asked them what they were doing..they had an event at sullivans monument..they were re-enacting the whole thing as they came through the valley.

boo galloping through the feild, he thinks I have something for him..

I was trying to get the thick plastic sheets neatly stapled up but had chickens under my feet the whole time, they had scratched up dirt all over

Beautiful photos Lynn. Do you live in the cabin. I love log houses.

Dragonlady I planted a Ginko nearly two years ago. We call him little man. My DH takes care of that tree for me hoping I will see it with some size on it in my lifetime. Slow growers but stunning in the fall of the year
Yes we Do Julie, we plan in the future to build some smaller guest cabins same style scandanavian scribe..we are still under construction..most of interior is finished but lot of details..husband has been so busy that he barley gets time to do anything here..he has honeybees to work too..just trying to find a minute. someday it will be nice..the storms blew
tyvec off the outside upstairs.. log homes have fantastic thick walls and R value holds in both heat in winter and cold in summer..very cozy warm...wish I could have a ginko tree here!

I thought I would take a few more pics of the area this morning..The birds are out hunting the apples .they blend in perfectly with the fall leaves, but the chickens have no trouble finding them..I took a few pics at sunset last night also, some of the sugar maples at sunset are so bright they hurt your eyes...

the hickory nut trees turn a little yellow then drab brown..

view from one of the poultry pens, where the deer and the orpington roam..several storms had blown branchs into my temp fence , one of these days I will get out there and straighten it all back up..i picked some very big branchs off that fence..had to stand it back up kind of after the tornadoe in the area ..we have 10 acres hilltop..maybe a small winery in its future. we are thinking about it...I just cant wait to get the new barn and fences up .

a view from the cabin front. this yellow maple was so bright , even the camera couldnt stand it..
the side roads are full of tourists to the area to see the fall foliage,

Love seeing all the fall pictures. Our trees are just starting to change and look so pretty.

I had a great opportunity to buy a Chocolate trio that came from Marce. I have been hatching chicks from them. I am going to post pictures of them but PLEASE excuse the roosters color. They free range during the day and he is sun bleached bad. I just love these little birds. So sweet and so curious!! I also just bought a juvenile trio from Greenfire also. Very excited to work with this color.

Do you know how much they weigh?

Morning Jeremy

, was wondering what the weight for the bantams is? Or what the cut off point is from bantam to large fowl (I have never had bantams). We have the large fowl chocolates (that we imported) and we have large fowl chocolates from Christinas line in with our LF English blacks. The chicks from both lines are awesome. Because the chocolates from the US and from the UK were originally created from bantams (or that is my understanding), occasionally we are going to see smaller birds from both lines. I know they are not accepted yet in the USA but would like to keep them within the standards for when they are. Sorry for such a lengthy question

( Or if anyone else might have some input

? ). I won't be raising bantams but was wondering where the smaller birds that may result from these lines fit in, and would they still be classified as bantams if they fall with in the weight standards?
