The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Joy,
My pictures are embarrassing compared to yours! I got a new camera, and I do like it, BUT .... it has a rechargable battery that I have to keep charging.

These are the only 2 pictures I got before the battery went dead. 2 of the boys I hatched from Joy.

Kathy - Your pictures are NOT embarrassing.....I think they look great. I'm usually a terrible picture-taker. I cut everybody's heads off with people pictures. Also, my camera is wonderful and it is not a fancy expensive camera, but it takes great pictures and has a really great zoom. The pictures that I took yesterday I thought were not that great. The sun was starting to go down, so all the eyes have that shiny thing going on.

ANyway - you have quite a few really NICE looking pullets in there. I love the dark blue boy in picture #1, and look at that broad black butt iin #2 !! Gotta love the big butts on these birds !!! The black girl in photo #3 looks really really nice, and I just love the picture of the last blue girl. My favorite picture is #6 - you are really getting the evil eye...like they are saying "how dare you disrupt our meal."

Beth - They are looking great. The 2 black girls are really shaping up. I cannot believe how big Skotche has gotten. WOW. She is such a sweet girl. Thanks for posting pictures.

Jeremy - We need updated photos young man !!!

First of all, if any professional photographers out there are interested in doing a study in poultry booties, I have just the models for you! At the first sight of a camera, mine all spin and lift.

I need help from the experts. These are my first Orpingtons and I am hoping they are old enough to tell what they are.

First I have eleven Julie-babies that are 4 1/2 weeks old. I am almost certain they are mostly pullets. These are the ones I am calling girls, so correct me if I'm wrong...

These are some that I think are boys:

First, there's Thor (My favorite)

Then there's Pierre (Who screams like a girl every time I open his brooder box)
IMG_0335.JPG

Then there's Johnny Cash:

Now, there's Momo. He/she hatched two days later than the others and was attacked by her hatch mates. He/she has always been a little odd looking. By the second day it sprouted a HUGE tail and wings that are longer than it's body. So, is it a boy or girl?

That would make seven girls, four boys. I would be happy with that.

Next are my Joy-babies.

OK, I am THINKING two boys and two girls.

The blue that I fear is a boy, but REALLY want to be a girl...

I cannot even delude myself that this is a girl. He is WILD. He actually jumped out of the top of my three-level brooder box. We're talking seven feet up! I just about had a heart attack, but he wasn't even fazed. STILL tries to jump out every time the door is open.

I am LOVING these guys!!!!!

All but Pierre are so sweet and calm. It's an eye-opening experience to someone who has only had hatchery Wyandottes.

I sure do enjoy looking at all the pictures.

I should be able to get some pictures up of the babies I got from Julie back in March pretty soon. Still trying to get everything tied up for winter here. Waiting on an electrican to come wire the genny into the breaker box and run power out to the chicken house. Don't want the water to freeze

Tennesseckn - I am horrible as sexing at that age, I tend to see pullets everywhere unless it is really obvious, but you have some really cute babies.

Gloria Jean, eggs you shall have. Look on SDWD later today for pics of Cloud, she is doing well.
