The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have a two story chicken house. The top floor is set up for injured birds. I have never used it thankfully. It is old and dusty. I have the English Orps in the bottom for now. I have the buildings, I do not have the free range space. I only have about 3 acres. 1/2 acre of that is marsh and is pretty thick with wild animals. The DH does not want me encroaching in that territory. He likes the geese, coyotes, and

Lyn.. no I haven't seen that plan...in fact I <cough> have never looked at any.. lol

Thanks Don about the white toe nails

I was also reading on the UOC website. It was talking about purple in the feathers of black birds. Is that also a fault?
It is very undesirable. A proper black bird like a black Orp should have a green sheen, not a purple one. Since it is specified in the SOP that they should have a green sheen, I'd venture to say it is a fault.\

I would love to have new set up and down here I would love to have fans installed to keep the birds cool in the summer. What is need is one of those things they put up for raising chickens for market but modified to suit raising them for fun. I would like stalls to Irene with outside runs covered. But then I might want some trees inside the outside runs.
Problem is I need new flooring in my house so I guess/ sigh the chickens will have to wait.

BTW, I am going to the show in Pensacola and I am taking a few chicks I hatched out a few weeks ago. Some will be six weeks by the time I get there. Most will be cockerels. They are hatched from a Black Cock and Splash hen. Some turned out a good color but I have these few that are huge chicks but to dark for breeding in blue pen. They would be great if your trying to improve the size of you blacks. They are free to whoever gets there first to get them. I can't keep them in a hotel room and i am getting there Friday nite. I just don't need them and i have more due to hatch.

They are nearly black but hatched blue so they are blue just dark.

My set up is pretty good, but limited to 30 mature birds. I'd love a long kennel type building with sleeping stalls and covered runs on either side that can feed into ranging areas as necessary. Yup, Renie, a sink and places to store everything, as well as chick areas, and a hospital ward. Haven't had to use a QT ward in years, but you never know. All floors concrete, covered in sand. Major fans for the summer, and electricity if needed for the winter.Water is a given. I have a good bit of this now, but Chicken Math is threatening. Heaven for Orps.if I win the lottery.
