Got a few pic today of my young splash boy, I think he is going to be a monster, Only about 9-10 months old, What do yall think about him ? Where you at Julie ?

Hi,

One of the chicks I sold turned out to be a rooster and the woman is looking to re-home him. After seeing his picture, I wonder if I should keep him.
He is Lavender Cuckoo. I think he is the result of my Black English Orp rooster that is Split with Lavender and my Crele Project hen. Is anyone working on a Lavender Cuckoo pattern?

Here are a couple of pictures. I would love your opinions.

If you have any interest in breeding that color, I would take him back. He's a handsome fellow !
I decided to decline. I saw him in person and he is even prettier than in the pictures and is true cuckoo, but I really don't have it in me to build a pen for another project. I have a few pens I still need to build as it is. I ended up giving him to my rooster guy who will grow him out for a couple more months and then process him. If anyone is interested in him working on a Lavender Cuckoo project, let me know. I can get him back.

Oh, I just found out he is 11 weeks in this picture, so he will be a nice big boy.

OK.. I might be opening a can of worms.... but I need to know..... Let's talk about Black Orpingtons. What is considered a true Black??? Now as far as I know... the black we have here in the US are all coming down from a mix of Blues, Blacks, and Splash... Soo are these Blacks...... True Blacks ??? It is my understanding that a red is needed in the background somewhere to achieve the beetle green sheen we all desire... other wise... a black with gold back ground will give you the not so desirable purple color. Those of you that are in the know.. please step forward and correct me if I am wrong about anything I convey in this post. I won't get mad... I promise.

Also... I want it known... I will never own a chocolate... not that I don't think they are lovely.... because they are..... I want people to feel confident when they buy a black from me... that I have done everything I can to make sure it is not a split for chocolate. It is just less headache for me.. lol

Renie, that is a problem when you have chocolates. I have black and chocolate bantams. I don't keep any blacks out of the choc cross for this reason. If someone gets a trio of blacks and they hatch a chocolate chick, they have the right to be upset. I toe mark my babies when they come out of the bator. If the people are honest this should never happen. There is folks that have blacks orp bantam that are to be pure English?? Could be a wreck about to happen.

Roger he is very handsome... I just wonder if he is going to be able to breed the hens successfully with a back that short.
I have never heard of one haveing trouble breeding because of the back being to short, this is common of the English import line from what pictures I have seen of a true import, remember the buff someone posted on here a while back he was the same way, I have been trying to get this for a while now, I am very happy with him.
