The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

He's Blue, right? Do you have any other pictures of him? I'm only asking because his hackle/back/saddle feathers look a bit light in color. Besides that he looks great, IMO. He looks a lot like his daddy Neville did. How is is comb? He looks nice and typey too, you're smart to hold on to him.

I wish I would have been at the Heirloom Expo to see him in person, thank you for posting a picture for me. Are all of your hens from him too? Or have you added birds from another line? I'd love to see pics of your girls as well. ETA: This was his father, he was such a sweet bird too, I miss him a lot. These are the only 2 girls I kept out of his test hatch. They are 5 months old now. My black hens came from an old guy I met working on a horse rescue. Blues are from a local breeder. I'll be adding a few from this years hatches to my pen! I'm rehoming all my other hens and will only be keeping my English and my best quad of Lavenders!!

Suggestions anyone? I have a very nice splash cockerel I was hoping to keep, however, I had put him in with some hens a week ago and a couple of days ago went in the pen to pick up a hen who pitched a fit and he went after me. He wont make a move toward my husband or daughter, but targets me. I just watered and again he rushed toward me as I was about to open the gate. Aside from dinner, what should I do with him? Is it possible for him to be a good bird, just aggressive toward me? This is my first experience with aggression from a rooster and I'm stumped....

Get yourself a battery operated water pistol. Available from Amazon. He will not associate being sprayed with you. He'll just think God got him. This works ! Never run from an agressive Roo. Run AT him ! You're the mother. He's the chicken.

Great idea about the water pistol! Luckily, I have never run from him - even when he tagged me as I was picking up the hen. I just kicked at him as he was backing up. Usually I just stomp really hard into his pen and carry a raquetball raquet and he backs away or turns and runs, but if I crouch down to pour feed or clean out the water, he rushes me and I have to stand and stomp. Is there any hope for him or should I cull now before I get attached or tempted? In other words, is there such a thing as Rooster Rehab?

Crouch down, and nail him with the water pistol. The look of surprise on his face will be worth it !
