The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Here's a couple pics of my first hatched LF chocolate "female" chicks and a couple of their black siblings. Ya'll know who the parents are. I've beat that dead horse a lot. They are about 10 days old. I put a towel over the drawings this time. LOL It helped too.

Soooo cute....how exciting

I lost one nice English Black Orpington hen a few nights ago. There was nothing but a pile of black feathers inside the pen, another pile just outside of the pen, and a trail of feathers leading to the woods. There were no bones or anything, just feathers. In 2 nights, I got a little even. Yes, I caught 3 raccoons in 2 nights. The night's not over. Wish me luck.

So sorry for your losses Alton..its never the ones you would like to sell either..

Yep...there they are , the scourge of the poultry pen..Ive had my run ins with those Alton..masked bandits..I have made things so hard on them that they cant get into any pen at night anymore..then to make things even worse..I let the guard dog out around midnight..one night you could see them running and screaming the dog right on thier heels they set off all of the motion lights around the house and pens....the dog grabbed one and shook it up good..they havnt been back ...so far anyway..

They can chew straight through chicken wire, and my cousin had a racoon pull a full size light sussex through a chicken wire hole they are very strong..there is almost no latch that they cant unlatch..Bob Whitney lost his show string one year..they opened child proof latches on his grooming pens..

Oh my goodness! I hope they stay south of the stateline :)
I have one trap but never thought about trapping more than one at a time. After seeing this picture i will be getting a few more. Happy trapping - they love marshmallows!

Excellant!! And I know I will jinx myself here, but I have not lost a chicken since getting my Great Pyrenees, she is a ray of sunshine, and a blessing. Here are some black and blue chicks that hatched this week.
