The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

i have pics in my pc of one identical to that yaya..honestly thought it was black..it now has very strong lacing...dark blue..if i get a min i will post pics then and now for you
Two days ago, I hatched out a very few chicks out of an imported splash rooster over two blue hens and a splash hen. The result: eight chicks that should be 100% blue, right? Two are pitch black down the back. Has anyone EVER produced black out of splash over blue? I know it's supposed to be impossible, but I only collected egg from this one pen over two weeks after they were put together for the first time, so fertilization from another cock should not be the issue. Has anyone ever had a chick that looks black, mature into a very dark blue? Any other explanations? There is NO WAY another cock could have gotten into the pen; 6 foot tall fences with a solid roof over head and only one pen out grazing ever at a time...

obvious blue on the left, Black? on the right

Pretty babies Blarney and Yaya!
Alton, as always very nice blacks.

I finally have a picture of one of Nellie's little black pullets. They usually have their heads down munching on something. This was by accident. She's so sweet.

Three of the juvie blacks. Finally getting used to the camera.

Wow Dee, very nice job!

Pretty girls Dee

Sylivia I think you probably have a really dark blue. You will still get varying shades of blue breeding Splash to blue.Even when you breed black to splash you will not get a consistant coloring of blue if you are hatching a large number. I have various shades to prove it right now off of Blue over splash and Splash over blue and I have all the best colors of my Black over splash which produced three shades of blue.

Very interesting color to work with.
