The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Your hen has great taste. All my tomatoes froze :( Hope you don't mind an off topic question, but do goats have the same "freemartin" problem that cows do if they birth both sexes? Will your baby girl goat be sterile? Sorry, I only know cows, but I figure goats are similar- but have twins and triplets all the time.

Edit to add- google answered my question for me. It rarely occurs in goats.

Only when you breed naturally polled to Nat. Polled.

what? naturally horned cattle twins dont have the sterility problems?

Good news... My garden is ok.. .NOW if i can just keep one of my black hens out of it... She won't stay in the chicken yard and has helped herself to my cabbages, broccoli, and pepper plants... soo might have to replant after all :( Had twin baby Pygmy goats born this morning .. 1 of each sex. :) Now lets hope this new momma takes good care of them. Brad just left to go buy catle panels. We are going to make two summer breeding pens today :)
Sounds like a good day...except for your veggie thief

Congrats on the new babies!

I don't think it has anything to do think polled or horned. It's a twinning issue with cattle and doesn't include goats. And only if the unborn calves are boy and girl gender.

(I believe that is how it goes)
I have seen twins (boy girl) in cattle that were not sterile also, but most of they time they are. No issues with goats though.

thats what I have always known, usually the heifer is sterile, but not always. never heard or knew anything about naturally polled having anything to do with it. thats why I asked.

Yes, that is my understanding as well. I think it was just a question as it might seem that goats would be the same since they are ruminants as well.
I remember the first time I looked in a cows mouth and couldn't figure out where her top teeth went.......
