Joy, I always look forward to your pictures. They look fabulous! I tell ya, the O's are fast becoming my favorites. They just have a sweet look to them. AND, CLEMENTINE!!! Oh my, she is looking grand!

I love the group shot, too .... lots of chickens!

Hope Finn is doing well. Sending best wishes his way.

Oh my those chickens look like they could be blown across the yard! What a sight that would be!

Happy Chooks, Males don't usually have lacing like that on the their backs. They would have a dark saddle. The hackles look like a female.

Joy now the lacing on Blueberry is awesome. I love her color. They are all really getting big. Windy here to day too. Very cold so I worked and didn't have a chance to be home. Just got in. Left Church and went shopping. Maybe tomorrow evening I will be able to get a pic of Chester. He thinks I am his Mama. Follows me like a puppy and expects me to protect him from the other young cockerels who have him low man on the pecking order.. He bows up to them occasionally. It is getting some better. He is finally getting somewhat acclimated to the flock. '
Joy I might be wrong but I believe Taylor will be as large as the O's She is very similar. A gorgeous pullet. I am going to breed her to Charlie when she starts laying. I want to show her in Lake City but her comb isn't red yet. I may have to wait till Feb in Ga if it doesn't get any color by Jan 9

Matt looking forward to your pics.

I was thinking the same thing about ostrich-boy... but I thought maybe I was not seeing something in the photos.

Glad to know I'm not losing it.

"She" is very pretty and has lovely lacing to me.

Well shoot.

I was wondering the past week or so when "his" comb was going to get bigger. I just figured maybe English Orps took longer to develop. Now I wonder why she was so much slower growing than the others? It's really weird, 13 weeks and she's still not completely feathered.

Happy Chooks - I agree with the others, I think your little one is a pullet.

Punky - That definitely would be a sight to see - chickens blowing all over the yard !! LOL.

Kathy - Thanks !! The O's definitely are special..they are just beautiful. Clementine is still my favorite - even though she STILL isn't giving me any eggs. I wish she would hurry up. I want to hatch some more of her chicks. I've been patiently waiting, but my patience has almost reached its limit !!

Julie - I think you are talking about Bluebell's lacing? I goofed and typed "Blueberry" in that picture when it is actually Bluebell. Bluebell is just turning into a beautiful girl - of course, she was pretty from day 1. Would love to see some good pictures of Chester and more pictures of Taylor. I hope she does turn out to be as big and beautiful as The O's. I can't wait until you show her and hear how she does.

The wind has calmed down here today, but it is cold. We have chances of snow on Saturday and Sunday !!! I don't get to pick Finn up until tomorrow instead of today. The surgeon wants to keep him an extra day to make sure his calcium doesn't bottom out. Poor thing - she said he is really trying his best to get everyone's attention so they will pet him. He is a spoiled boy, so I am sure this isn't easy for him. He is doing well, though, and I just can't say enough great things about the surgeon and Carolina Veterinary Specialists. THey have been just awesome. I've also talked to my local vet and she is going to be on standby this weekend in case his calcium does plummet and she has to give IV calcium. My local vet has been wonderful too. Not too many will give you their home phone numbers !!!

I am amazed at how well these birds are handling the cold. I love that their combs are a little smaller, and all that fluff is doing a wonderful job at sub-zero temps.

Beautiful birds Matt! We have so few young folk here in the USA, who have the privileges you have, with the choices of breeds and varieties that is found in the UK.
I am sure there will be a line for your Buffs. The Buff color is, in my opinion, the toughest color to get right and maintain. We're lucky enough here to have a wonderful and legendary Buff breeder, with 40 years of experience, Danne Honour who has written and published many fine articles on the subject of getting and maintaing the Buff color. IF anyone wants to breed Buffs I recommend you read his article published in EXHIBITION POULTRY MAGAZINE DEC issue. It is a free download online. Published every month with pics of the Show winners, here in the USA. But more importantly, the articles written are from some of the best Poultry authorities in the world on a variety of breeding subjects, like making and maintaining the Buff Color by Danne Honour. I would say the next most difficult variety would be Blue and Lavender. But I am not an authority on ANY. I just appreciate great pics of great birds.
Thanks Matt.
