Look at this egg I just got..... I think this is the first time I have ever got a, "wind egg." It came from the English Orps pen...
It is so tiny!

Julie gave me this Blue Orp cock last year at the Nationals. Thought I would share how his boys are growing out.
DOC has a little ENGLISH in him. Pix don't do them justice, their as wide as their long.

Finally got around to getting some updated pictures of my Bama kids today. They just turned 8 months at the end of November. I am just loving this group.

I love this picture, a bit fuzzy as the sun was behind him. We will continue to show him next year and hoping for some good offspring too.

Both of the girls, I can't believe how different they are.

She was getting ready to jump up on the straw.

Thanks, Bama, got two roosters the same age, hatched late July - one is very roostery, one is a little efeminate...! Plus three pullets, two about 3 weeks older than my boys and one about 6 weeks younger, she is the one in front. My blokish rooster will be a stunner, bred from previous show stock, a local guy sent me some eggs to try out my incubator and got four from six eggs, 2 pullets, 2 boys. Am looking forward to breeding them next year, I have seen the size of the orps the pullets came from and they thinder around when they walk, truly massive. The cockerel must have weighed in at about 16lbs, he was nearly two feet tall. Absolutely massive. So, can't wait for them to mature, but they are looking good. I'm not feeding them show pellets/fancy feed and am not keeping them from the sun, so will be no good for showing really (colour will 'wash out' in the sun) but should get some pretty fab birds from them next year. Might try to cross in some chocolate orp if I can get a nice one. Maybe a pair and split them as choc roo/buff hens and buff roo/choc hen. Try for splash or spangled?

Yes 16 lb is a huge fellow Sarah. They should turn out well. Can't wait to see them mature.

HenThymes you did well. All of those are beautiful. Really nice tail on that male. His comb is great. Thank you so much for updating on them. keep me informed if he wins anymore shows.

Kathy, how much? What are your proportions?

I took a 5 gallon bucket of feed and added wheat germ oil to it (or Virgin Olive Oil when I ran out), to moisten it and for the benefit. Then, I dumped in a bottle of each of the spices and mixed it all in well. I also added a couple bags of cranberries to the mix. I have been doing this for about a week. I bought a bunch of cranberries on sale, just for the birds. LOL I have walnuts and almonds to use to, but I need to chop them a little bit in the blender first, I think.

Just add the spices like you add salt and pepper to your own food.

I add spices to my feeds as well, cayenne, garlic and flax seed for the most part. I just sprinkle some on as a topper to each pens dish. I buy what they call the "Cardinal Mix" at Tractor Supply which is a blend of whole boss, sunflower hearts & safflower. They get it everyday and cannot get enough, they love it!!
