3 month old Orps, with 5 week old Nigerian Dwarf goat…but doesn't she look like a cow there? wish they were that big… well, maybe not the roos.

Thanks guys, the blue boy on top, I do like him and he is staying along with the blue girls, and of course all of the black pullets will get their own pen with a splash rooster. I like the coloring I am getting a lot, the lacing is pretty sharp too, now to let them grow up and see if I got the type I want going on.

Question on chick food for these guys. What should the protein be? I am feeding 20% dumar. Is that enough?

It sounds right. Most bagged feed is mixed to meet Food and Ag recommendations.


This is what I do and I am not saying it is what anyone else should do. Chickens are omnivores and need meat. Many bagged feeds have removed meat for many reasons. I will not get into the reasons why unless someone needs to know.

I feed an average of 15% protein grains(wheat berries, oats, barley. peas) 5-10% meat protein, in the winter. Plus they forage in pastures rich in oregano, clover, and kale, and dig for bugs. I have compost piles for them too. During this time of year I usually do not feed grains or bagged feed to adults. They get most of their feed by foraging. I give them meat proteins over grains at night during conditioning and encourage them to eat greens and forage in the pasture all day long.

Since I moved, I've looked around for a source of feed that does have animal protein in it. No luck. Oh how I miss my MG brand food with fish meal in it! Any suggestions?

So far I figure just give them some leftover meat when I have it (which is a few times a week) and hope for the best.
