The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Jeremy - STOP THAT !!! LOL. Those birds are just gorgeous, *sigh*

Kathy- They look really good. I especially like the black pullet. I would really be interested to see how that blue cockerel turns out. He looks good so far...though I can't see his comb too well in the picture.

I got out and took some pictures because my babies are turning three months old tomorrow! All but the fourth are from Julie eggs.

My friendliest little guy, Johnny Cash

As you can tell from the hackle feathers, Pierre is NOT as friendly...
He's actually not that bad. The camera really scared him for some reason.

My little MoMo. He hatched two days later than the rest. He is actually looking better as he grows up. His wings used to be WAY bigger than his body and his legs were way too short and he had this weird, humped back. The hatching process was NOT kind to him. If he looses those ginormous tail feathers, think he'll look normal?

I thought I would be a rock star for bringing them a flock block, but (yawn) it's just another roost. This is Roo. He's a Joy-chick.

My little camera hog, Princess.

Anybody else's coop act like a time portal? I go out there to change their water and SOMEHOW two hours pass! It's crazy!

I took some pictures today too!

These are my Joy babies, they'll be 4 months old on Dec. 29th. Sorry about the quality of the pictures, they were taken with my phone... and I literally had to back these guys into a corner to get some decent shots. They were NOT wanting to cooperate with me... the pile of logs crawling with buggies had their attention much more than I did. Anyways, here they are.

Joy, what do you think?

I'm curious about how you import Orpingtons from the UK. Where did you order from, was it as costly as I think it is, did you order chicks or hatching eggs? I'm completely clueless on importing, I'd like to get some gorgeous orpingtons from the UK next spring, but I'm not sure how.

Agh! Jeremy, I have serious blue-pullet-envy. I have 9 girls, 6 boys. Pretty fantastic odds, right? Except that every single girl is black.

They are gorgeous. Edmund is awesome. Thanks for giving a glimpse of what mine might be a month from now.

Daphne, I love the blues too, they are my favorite. I was lucky to get as many of them as I did from Joy, that and all of my pullets! Out of 11 chicks I ended up with 8 girls! Edmund was my only splash, I hope to hatch more splash babies next spring.

Daphne - Love your little camera hog (last picture). THey are looking good. I wanna see your cockerel when he gets older. Keep the pics coming. You should get some blue chicks when you breed them and hatch.

Jeremy - It's hard to tell by the pictures...they are fuzzy (not sure if it is my old eyes or not !!) You look like you have a couple there that are a beautiful blue color. Edmund's comb looks great !! Can't wait to see if it looks that good as he grows. When you get the chance, try to take some more pictures. I can't believe how much they have grown !!!

I need to try to get some recent pictures of mine. Bluebell is getting ready to lay soon, I think....Hagrid was doing "the dance" around her last week. She is really, really growing into a pretty pullet. I'll try to get some pictures this week - the weather has been so crappy, haven't been able to get any.

Importing - Yes, it is expensive. I imported hatching eggs (am working on importing again and will import chicks this time). You can find the info you need to import at the USDA website and/or APHIS. You also need to find a breeder in the UK who is willing to do the testing on their end. Process is different for eggs that it is for live birds. Good luck !!
