The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

No, this is a different one.

Hang on to both of them ! With a bit less skirt, this girl will throw great SOP Blacks !

then why bother with English birds if you want SOP? there are plenty of American birds that fit the SOP for America, I thought the point of importing and buying and breeding ENGLISH birds was because we liked the fluff and shape? why go through the trouble to get them here only to change them to fit the American SOP? and I say this with the nicest intentions. I just dont get it, cant we have both? instead of trying to make them all fit the same mold? :(

I, personally, get the 100% English because I WANT all the fluff and roundness. If the judges dont like my birds so be it, but I dont want shank showing, just lots and lots of fluffiness. I am the same in my minpins, I breed the type I like, and the judges can use them or not, but have been lucky and have some of the top dogs in the country. I wont change my type to win under certain judges...Just my own opinion. Love the Orps. Cant have too many...

I think all that love English orps have that opinion. I love them. I love the excess feathering and all. They are absolutely beautiful! The imported type is what won me over to get orps in the first place. And I do now have some that truly fit the UK standard from Europe. But what I meant is that I think Dragon Lady was just giving a bit of friendly advice. Yes, this is the IMPORTED ENGLISH thread but still...

yes I know she was, as was I, the nice thing about this thread is everyone usually keeps it civil :) I dont want to see the Imports bred down to the American sop though. other threads for that project.

I totally agree with RedReiner, I'm still wet behind the ears as far as the English Orpingtons go, but feel they should be bred to the English standard. And that is my ultimate goal.
