The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I agree, I just haven't taken my birds to a show. And honestly, they are not "my birds", when I start breeding then I will think about showing.

Just my opinion

Nothing wrong with going to get an opinion talking to the judges and giving yourself a starting point, then aim to improve every year...the judge seeing the birds in person can tell you what will be a good plan for the future ect...and they will give honest opinions..and best yet they are fresh eyes can see things you might be missing when you purchased..say like a weak leg or something that could be a problem that you might have overlooked..on the surface everything looked fine.in that aspect it helps befor you put down a ton of chickes with a defect..most you can see right off and are superficial , some are much more subtle....Im not doing much except concentrating on what breeding pens will be next year.. as my german freind said..america wants everything instant, dont be in a hurry...next year I will take some I have had for quite a long time, parents and offspring and see if I took a step forward on a few things that I wanted to..the offspring will show it..It kind of suprised me on how well one persons advise worked on the female line.

I saw this unfold last year a lady bought some langshans and bred a ton of them.she wanted to get them out to show befor she got too far into it..she knew they were good birds...I overheard the judge talking to her, in fact 2 judges were talking to her, he said this bird is outstanding built bird ,would have been asiatic champion but she has weak legs..to look at her I honestly couldnt see it..but 2 judges did..she felt she should have won that class and 2 judges told her why she didnt..its a validation. because she didnt get too far into her program , she made some big changes over the following year..

I'd like to go to one big show. I'd love to talk to other Orp breeders. Which would be a good show to attend. I'd like to put it on my calendar.

Found a fun shot of 3 of my boys today. Monty at 1 year front left and his 2 sons, Hungry at 6 months , right front, and Moose at 5 months in the rear. The 2 front boys are 100% English. Moose in the rear is 50% by Monty out of Dolly. He is now larger than Monty and Hungry. I am just about sold out of pullets, but I will have a few very nice cockerels for sale.

Take them to one of those lazer hair removal places ?

was thinking the same- can you imagine the looks you'd get walking in with your chickens!

I have 4 GFF Partridge Orps. The females never had any leg feathering. The male did when he was younger, but has since grown out of it. I don't see any more stubs. I have some whites too. Two of the males have stubs and none of the females do. The whites are my largest birds. Heavy and fluffy.
Same with mine, only the males of the Partridge have stubs- they are just at 3 mo old so might also grow out of it. My Whites from GFF don't have any stubs.
