The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

There are only a couple bloodlines of this coloration in the States so pretty much everyone who raises Partridge got their birds from this original imported quad. Of course with any new coloration they are going to need a bit of work to perfect - but I believe they are off to a great start. There definitely are chickens in this country that are work $2000+. They are worth what someone is willing to pay for them and ChickenGirl1304 had quite the competition to win these birds at auction (there were 45 bids.) If you can sell some chicks and make your money back while being able to say you have the original imported partridge Orpingtons in America - then why not give it a shot? It's a bummer these birds aren't laying yet - but when they do I think ChickenGirl will be very happy with her purchase and have great birds to continue improving the Partridges in America. Just my opinion

I agree. I personally love the Partridge Orps and agree they need work, I just wish I had a good rooster to go with my 2 lovely girls.

I appreciate that Bryce. Thank you. and yes that is my point. There was a lot of competition, hence the reason i tried to win them...people obviously want them and will pay for them be it hatching eggs or chicks...but they have to lay eggs first! lol. again, thank you, you worded things perfectly.

Chicken girl, we bought a quad of Coronation Sussex (Greenfire farms actual breeders) not their original breeders but their breeders and unrelated also and they did not lay an egg for almost 3 months and then they were not fertile for 2 more months but now they lay 1-2 eggs almost always and fertility is about 90%. We lost one in shipping. So hang in there.

I just really hope theyre not selling off all of these original imports because theyre not laying, not producing. since i bought these theyve also sold off their reds, crele, and now the silver laced....all original imports that would make them a lot of money. they imported the silver laced and havent even sold any chicks or eggs from them, now theyre selling them? doesnt make sense.

I heard they wanted to focus on Jubilees next year and were not doing any other Orps at all. Even if egg out put is low surely you should be able to produce a nice line of your own with some egg production and then have some great layers. With the age of the birds you received I wouldn't be surprised if they are just taking time off and will pick up pretty soon.

In the search for yet more new colors of Orps, a key thing seems to have been forgotten here. Orps are DUAL purpose birds, who are supposed to lay well, and then have a good enough carcass for Sunday dinner.Do we want to perpetuate new colors in Orps, that cannot fulfill the requirements of the standard of BOTH countries ?
