The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Thanks! I'm super happy to have them. It's been so long since I've had chicks/chickens (20-mumble-something-years) and I'm really excited to get back into keeping chooks. And Orps just strike me as the PERFECT chicken.

All I know is that they're beautiful & great with kids. I caught my daughter playing Barbies with our little Bantam Orp today.

This is our Bantam Menace: Cookie. Again, I'm not sure why a chicken was needed to play Barbies, but I grabbed my camera. Just too funny.

My daughter & her friends are always using the big fluffy, full sized orps as babies when they play house outside. The bigger ones are my favs b/c they just want to be with us at all times. They like to be lap chickens. Our bantam has more energy & prefers to fly up to a shoulder instead.

Wow, nice pic! My kids would love to play with the chicken inside but my wife would not let them in. Just curious how do you handle the poop if they for example poop on the carpet?

Our chickens (when inside) are usually in our arms or laps & only held for about 20 min at a time. An old towel is put down across the lap. Most of the time, they do not poop when being held, but the towel is for the "just in case." (You can see an old rag under Cookie in the pic) Also, if they start standing up or getting wiggly, it means they need to get back outside ASAP. We only had one chicken that didn't follow the rules & actually pooped when being held. Her name soon became "Poopie Poo," & we stopped trying to hold that one!
