My Jubilees are not bright, but they are sure cold hardy. I had 6 that all roosted in an open area of just hardware cloth and a roof. When it got cold, I started tossing them in the heated, insulated, enclosed henhouse after dark. It's finally down to just two who still won't go in the henhouse. They are not picked on, but pretty much stay with the other Jubilees during the day. They are not bright. My mostly English black/lav splits started roosting inside on their own after they joined the main flock. Clear difference. Might just be the lines or colors, definitely not dimwitted just because they're English!

Thanks. Me, too. So far they're shaping up nicely. Crossing my fingers I don't have too many cockerels. They're at that transitional phase where they ALL look like they could be. Eek!

I know this is an old post (I'm slowing working my way through the whole thread), but I have to say this is a magnificent creature. I never thought I would want buffs, but @thedragonlady and her birds are rapidly bringing me around!

Beautiful! I've finally made it ALL THE WAY THROUGH this thread and I'm so glad to see you're still "here". Your birds have been some of my favorites all the way through (in fact, they're pretty much why I went with BBS).

I'd love all of your expert advice! I have this cockerel who is 8 months old. He came from BBS breeding from another breeder but his color is way off; I mean, WAY off. **I am NOT breeding this cockerel. He is NOT part of any breeding program on my farm; he's in my cull pen.** He appears more gray than blue and, since July he has developed some copper/gold in his saddle and hackle feathers. Is he some other color than blue? Or is he a mixed-color Orp? Or is there just no telling? Just looking for thoughts before he and I part ways lol. He is so mellow and kind both to people and other poultry, I'll be sad to see him go.

He's just a poor quality Blue. The yellow/gold leaking in his hackle & saddle are a color fault that shouldn't be propagated. You're right to cull him from a breeding program, it sounds like he would make an excellent roo for an egg laying flock though.

Ok, thank you for confirming my thoughts! Unfortunately for him I have 3 great roosters in my egg-laying flock so he'll have to go. I'll see if I can find a good home for him. In the mean time, I'll be searching for breeding quality BBS English Orpingtons lol.

Here are some of my Chocolates, I have 1 Bantam Cockerel and 2 Bantam Pullet, and 1 LF Cockerel and 5 Pullets Hatched June 19 2014. Windy out today so some are kind of windswept.
