The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Wow, I will be thrilled if mine look like that! Both you guys have such gorgeous birds. I'm gonna have to show my chicks those pics and say..see, this is what you're supposed to be looking like :D

What kind of bedding is that in your coop? It doesn't seem to be pine chips...

@homeschoolin momma
I know this pic was of your fluffy lavs, but i found all the chicken feet along your roost a very neat photo. Perhaps you should try something more like this for an artistic photo.

:thumbsup

If that's too hard, there's the usual "fluffy butt" photos. Orps are just made for that!

Haha you should paint all those chickens' nails and take a photo of their feet and put it on Pinterest or somewhere with some cute caption lol.

That butt is the reason I decided to get into English orps..they're just So Fluffffyyyyy!

The coloring on your Lavenders is beautiful!

I feel like mine are too heavy..Ive never had chicks this fat lol.

If yours seem very big, then you may have the imported English bloodlines. They ARE very big compared to other orps. I've had some 9-10 lb hens and even bigger roosters. They're gentle giants, though, and you'll love them. Yes, they "eat & eat & eat..... and poop and poop and poop." (The quote came from my daughter at age 6. She was a very observant girl. LOL)

Maybe cob

Aspen chips. I get them at a pet supply store. About 8.50 a bag if I buy 10. My dad uses it in his guinea pig cage. When i only had 9-10 chickens in my coop a bag and a half would last me 3 or more months. 22 birds.... maybe a month. But i had a very high ratio of roos which seem to eat and poop more and stir it up to such small pieces it wont sift and just go through and then stinks. I also find it very dusty after a few weeks, but then they like to take dust baths in it sooo...balances out I guess.

Cool. I never thought of trying that. I always just used pine but there's probably a lot of alternatives. I used to use a type of cob stuff on the bottom of our parrots play-tree perch. They didn't get down there in it but it caught all the droppings.

Here's my Black split to Lav chick just over 5 wks. I put a 12 oz soda can next to him he wouldnt stand up all the way straight..they all freak out when I get my phone/camera out lol
I think this one is male due to his comb and his tail. Cant tell so mych fro. the pics but his comb is pretty red.

I agree that for 5 weeks he looks very male. Those wattles are hanging down & there's a bit of height to the comb. His size is good. His back is unusually bald. Normally I see the porcupine look (like on his wings). I'm guessing his chick down somehow got rubbed off & he's not growing feathers yet.
