Just thought I’d share! jubilee Orpington juvies

The cockerel has WAY too many points on his comb! They do need a lot of work from what I can see, but hopefully they turn out decent looking once they’re full grown

I go back and forth on if I find the Jubilee pattern pleasing or not. Some days I really like it, and some days I don’t. Lol Today is a like it sort of day.

I love your Jubilees! Did you buy chicks or hatch eggs?
I ordered 6 Jubbie eggs a few yrs ago. 3 arrived broke and the other 3 never developed booo!
I might try again next spring. They are so cute!

Thank you! I hatched them, I kept back these juvies and sold the parents. The hens didn’t have great type, and the cock had amazing type. They’re all siblings, so I may get an unrelated cock.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. The gross weather over the whole holiday weekend kept me in the house so I didn't get anything done outside. I need to get down more wood chips for sure. That much rain still got a few mud puddles that the younger birds and the geese enjoyed. lol

I let the two younger pullets (Mary and Matilda) out with the big kids again. Everyone seems to be behaving pretty well. I'm optimistic that I won't have to lock them back up. Suede's two sons are getting huge! Way larger than their White siblings.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the Orp breeder. I missed a call from him yesterday so I'll reach out after work today.

Been busy with some family issues, but needed a quick BYC break.

Orp upday:
Mr Potential is now some delicious soup. (He was looking too lanky.) Mr Nice Guy & the Sept cockerel are my last 2 lav orp contenders. The Sept Boy needs a name. Tonight is his 1st night in the garage. He was still sleeping under mama hen. The Sept cockerels & pullets are just a few days shy of 4 months old. I think they need to grow up!

Mr Wonderful is still top laced orp roo, but I'm letting his Sept son grow out to see how he turns out. So far, he looks great..... but like the lav orp cockerel, the little laced boy was also still sleeping under his mama hen. He too joined the big boys tonight.

So the cockerels who are nearing 4 months still follow their mamas. The serama chicks, however, are tough. Their mama just started laying again and is abandoning them at only 5.5 weeks. (They hatched Oct 27th) The mama covers them at night but is giving them far more freedom these days.

I'll try to post some pics when I can.

I also have a broody silkie hen in the house. (Housed in a wire cage in DD's bedroom to break her of such a silly idea as hatching chicks for Christmas.)
No more living Nativity scenes for me. I plan to have NO CHICKS under the tree this year.

Eggs: Still getting 2 Leghorn eggs daily. Another 2-3 bantam eggs. & Finally I'm getting 1 brown egg per day. I think from 2 diff hens..... but not completely sure which ones.

Sounds like you guys had a good Holiday and have been getting everything sorted out chicken-wise.

@ Colt, I will be excited to see what kinds of chicks you get from the breeder! You're so lucky! I'm glad Mary and Matilda are being accepted into the flock.

@ Faraday, Poor Mr Potential..i guess you said he had potential but didn't say potential for soup lol! Lol @ "Living Nativity Scenes" What's wrong with these crazy late fall/winter broodies? I have 2 with chicks right now. Each one has 2 chicks. I have another hen that had 4 but I took her babies and put them in with my silkie chicks in the brooder, because I just don't have another place to separate a baby momma and chicks from their flock right now. Enough is enough lol!

My Orp babies have been outside in the big coop for a week now. They have really grown! My little choc cuckoo orp baby has grown a lot and getting a little chubby finally..not as gawky but still a little sweetie.♡
On the Orp genders that everyone made guesses about..it is pretty clear what I have now.
1 Lavender hen and 3 Lavender roos
1 Isabel Pair
1 Blk Lav Split Roo
1 Choc Cuckoo roo
Booo mostly roos

You're so fortunate to get 3 girls and a boy! (that what it looks like from the pics anyways lol)
