The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Heres a few pics of the Isabel Cuckoo pair. They are growing so fast. The male is so light. His barring is definitely there byt very light. Easier to see in real life. I wonder when his diluted buff hackles and saddles will come in? I pulled up some Isabel Cuckoo chick photos on google and they both pretty seem to look like they are supposed to right now. There seems to be a little bit of a range on how dark the lavender barring is.

Thank you. Omg he is a love sponge lol. I am walking up to their baby coop and hes already excited running in circles by the door. When I open it he jumps right in my arms and stretches his neck up and lays it on my shoulder lol. He likes his chest and neck rubbed. He does this even when I first feed them all in the morning, when the others are all running for their food. I think he's part puppy. He acts pouty if I push him away when I leave or have to other things like change out food and water.
He also pecks the others if he thinks they are intruding on his attention from me.
Its funny, because he is kinda acting like Tootsie does (my bantam Choc Engish Orp). I can just see how any babies they had, would act lol.

I managed to grab a few crummy pics this morning...

Turning them out for the day...

Suede is the prettiest roo! OmG Im in love with him. All your girls are looking really nice too.
What kind of geese are those? We used to have Sebastpol Geese. I want to get some more.
No fair you have a Blue Slate Turkey! Do you also have females? I used to have 2 Broad Breasted Hen Turkeys that got so fat they could hardly walk. They were like giant 30-40 pound bowling balls. I would let them free range w the chickens so they could get some exercize.
One of them became smitten with a Blue Marans rooster we had. She would see him and run up churping and trilling and squat for him to mate her..he would want nothing to do with her and run away. That didnt stop her, she would follow him everywhere lol. I was looking for a Blue Slate Tom during that time to see if she would give up chasing that poor rooster lol. Couldnt find one though.
Im definitely getting more turkeys this spring!
Here she is. They were so sweet.

Thank you! Suede is a handsome boy. Of course I’m kind of partial to him. Lol I wish the Silver-laced Roo was as large.

The geese are American Buffs. I’d also like to get some Sebastopol geese in the future. The Blue Slate is a single. He and one other poult made the drive from Florida with a friend of a friend headed to California. She decided to leave them here in Texas and I inherited them. The second poult didn't make it so I ended up with this little jake/tom. I didn't have any luck finding any others until recently. I'm debating letting him go live with that breeder since he would be unrelated to her females, or I may get some from her next spring. I'm undecided on that though.

I got a few more decent pictures of some of them this weekend.

I love the "Golly" pics! (and of course all the orp pics too) Dereck looks like he may also become quite the personality - like Golly. I pretty much sold all my whites & never kept a cockerel very long. I must admit he's quite handsome.

I sold my last choc orp this fall, so thank you for sharing a pic of your girl. She looks just like my Coco.

Not many changes in the coop these past few weeks.

Here's the Sept baby lav orp boy (with an adoring leghorn hen next to him)

@homeschoolin momma
.... and here's my darling from you.
I think she laid her 1st egg today. (She's been checking out the coop & nest boxes. Then I found an egg under her roost tonight. It could have also been the gold laced orp, because she has yet to deposit an egg into the nestboxes. )

I'm enjoying them more than I thought I would. I'm usually not a huge fan of White chickens, but these two are really sweet. He definitely has a personality. He spars with his brothers occasionally and isn't the sweet little puff ball he was when he was younger. He's not shown an ounce of aggression towards me. I'm excited to see what he'll look like once he's filled out and is in his own pen without the other males.

I didn't originally want any Chocolates until I saw these in person. I'm not a fan of the Chocolate silver-laced, but I might try working on those eventually. For now I'm just excited to have more fluffy butts. :)

He is looking really handsome. He's got a flat back and a wide stance. I think he's going to be a big boy once he's all grown. Like the largest of my two Silver-laced cockerels. He's definitely Sterling's son. He's taller than the Silver-laced hens and he's probably not too far behind in weight from Sue, the smallest of them.

It could have also been the gold laced orp, because she has yet to deposit an egg into the nestboxes.

Tell me about it. Dahlia "made" her own nest for a couple of weeks before she finally started laying in the nest box. I was so proud of her. I thought she'd gone broody this weekend on one egg because every time I went out she was in the box. I caught her off the nest and cleaned the house and then she never got back on. *shrugs* I didn't really want New Years babies anyway.

I have to share her enormous butt fluff.

Baby got back... She's sooo fluffy! I love her. :)
