Carolyn - I agree with everyone else here - I definitely would not start to cull yet. Six weeks of age is still too young to get an accurate idea of color, lacing, size, etc. If you can hang onto them until at least 5 or 6 months, I'm sure you'll easily be able to choose which birds to keep.

Paula - It is so strange to see this color here !!! After seeing only black, blue and splash for so long - I have to do a double-take every time I go down to the coops.

Daphne - Some of them are quite big, but there are 2 that are a bit smaller than the rest. I think I have 1 cockerel and 6 pullets, but am not 100% sure about these. I am hoping that I have 2 cockerels, though. I guess we'll see as they get older. These chicks are definitely different than what I am used to seeing.

I have to say that these GL chicks are not at all skittish. They are very, very friendly and curious. I went down and sat with them in the run yesterday and they were all over me. Very friendly and very sweet babies. I can't wait to see them all grown up, but I'm taking my time and am enjoying watching them change and grow.

Thanks for all the input I guess I won't be taking any to the Poultry swap in Sharpsburg. I'm just worried that I will have way to many birds for the winter. I have 30 in the bator from my other rooster that are due to hatch next week. I will have plenty to sell come fall. I tried uploading pictures but the system is being cranky, says error must be gif,jpeg.... which is what I was uploading. Does anyone else have this problem when uploading?

I would love to see pictures of your Orps here on our thread!

Joy, the Gold Laced are cute... maybe all of those pullet thoughts I sent your way actually worked. I do think I have some sort of magical gift when it comes to only hatching girls.
