Matt - This is interesting - can you explain it more? I've never heard this.

I'm not 100% sure what causes this, it may be lack of natural light, but usually chicks eye colour can change fairly rapidly if they have been inside when they go out. I've also seen this with adult birds that have been in breeding sheds for a number of months under artificial light.

Wow, look at how busy yall have been on this thread. I have been to busy to get on. Welcome to all the newbies on here and thanks Matt as always for you help and knowlege.
thanks to all who have shared there photos. I think we all have babies growing out. I know i am going through 100 lbs of chick feed every six days. I can't cull at this point. Just have to suck it up for a bit more. Jeremy I need to send you some eggs i guess cause I always seem cockerel heavy here. I do have to say I have some great big black girls growing out. I hope I am not going backwards in good lacing. Time will tell. Blues are definitely a challenge. I have some beautiful blue splash growing out and their hackle feathers are laced. Maybe by thursday I can take some more photos to share.
I am really enjoying seeing all your chick pics as they grow.

Sandy you have some really nice birds.

Julie, I will never say no to eggs from you! I've got a few broodies sitting on air that I'm sure would love to hatch some fat Orpy babies. I've been thinking about how I could use a few nice Blacks, too. Since with Neville I'll only produce Blue and Splash chicks.

You just let me know when you're ready.

They look great. Sorry for not commenting earlier.. I had jury selection then we had a bad storm and lost power.... I didn't get on the comp much while using the genny.. Also for some reason I wasn't getting notified by the list telling me of new post to this thread. <shrug>

I don't know but somewhere in the back of my head... I remember reading that chickens should not be raised with turkeys due to some kind of disease.

Great Job!.. I just hatched out a few new babies this week during the outage... what a trip.. lol

Hi, guys!!!

I have about 20 Orpingtons (buff and white) that I got from Jody (Hink-JC) that are about 10 weeks old at this point....and I am in LOVE with them!!!

....but in my heart of hearts, I'd also love some of these English Oprs - especially in blue or black!

I've been watching the auctions for someone to be offering fertile eggs, but haven't seen any...do any of you sell eggs or know of someone who does?

Thanks for your time!!!
