Jeremy - Neville is just beautiful !! He is really looking good - if he only had a good comb !! Alice is nothing to sneeze at either !!! Just gorgeous birds

Renie - "The Brits are looking lovely." Those are really good pictures. I see a few chicks that I wouldn't mind having myself !!

Congrats you two on beautiful birds !!

P.S. - I went to see Harry Potter again last night !!! LOL. Will go again this week to see it in 3D !! Yeah, what can I say, I'm a #1 Potterhead !!

His comb is his downfall, IMO. Just as soon as I hatch a Blue roo with an evenly spaced, 5 point comb, he'll replace Neville. Luckily quite a few of my girls have nice combs, especially Thelma. Which is good as I plan on trying to get my Blue boy from her.

I couldn't ask for a better boy disposition wise though. Neville is probably the sweetest bird I've ever owned. He dances for his girls and calls them for treats. He breeds them like a gentlemen and has never once shown a bit of aggression towards me, that I'm really thankful for. I'm hoping he passes on his perfect personality to his future sons.

We're going to see Harry Potter tomorrow night, I'm so excited I could pee my pants!

LOL!

I have a Buff Sport with a similar comb that Doug raised and conditioned. I mentioned to him my concern about the comb and he assured me that the bird has more to offer then the minor flaw in his comb. In a show your Neville's comb is not a DQ, and only a mere one point deduction. His full rounded breast is not a trait I'd want to trade away for a 5 point comb. IF you pair him up with a hen/pullet who has the proper number of points I breed him to her and wait till the offspring fully grows out. A bird can wind up croaking for no reason then your back to square one in need of another cock. Hang on to Neville and breed the cr@p out of him. He is a nice boy. Good luck with him in future breedings.
Again I am no expert but I ask those who are. And here is a boy who has a very similar comb. Even though he is not a UK boy this pic is to illustrate the similarity of combs and Doug's comment about type and a full rounded breast being the priority in a breeding program
hope to be encourabing you to keep Neville and using him for a long time.

Jeremy - Did you go see it??? Did you like it? Did you pee yourself

I agree with Bill - I would not be so quick to replace Neville. Combs are easy to work on, as is eye color and a couple of other things. Cut-away breast is not so easy. Neville has a gorgeous shape - his chest is a nice round barrel. I would definitely hang onto him - see what kind of babies he throws. Can't wait to see them !!!

I should have been a bit more clear, I absolutely LOVE Neville and I do plan on using him for several breeding seasons. His shape like y'all mentioned is what I'm super excited about. He is BIG! His chest really is starting to round out now a lot. I feel like he's finally setting into his final stage of growth and packing on the pounds. My other rooster, a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, has some black striping in his hackles that he shouldn't have and all of my attention tends to focus on that and not always see the other very nice things about him. I do that a lot with my birds, I have to remind myself not to be overly critical and recognize their good attributes too. That said, my Neville isn't going anywhere anytime soon!

I want to put him with Alice and Thelma and hatch like crazy from those two hens. They are my two "busty" girls, they're chests are round and very, very FULL. Plus Thelma has thighs like a turkey... I'm expecting giant chicks from those pairings.

Now to just convince the other half that we should start hatching again and incubate some Orpington eggs...
