The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have to kind of laugh at the english snobbery..im english too hee hee..but a correct bird is a correct bird be it english or american..all of them origionated from william cooks crook..and brought here by him..so they all have the same origon..ones across the pond at some point had more cochin added british breeders set out to find cochin breeder cast offs (meaning clean legged birds) and had a vision to improve the outline , meatyness and little less sloppy in the tail.. americans bred bigger and for was for climate, america went full blown corporate world after ww2, so we dropped the ball on a lot of chicken breeds..look at australias australorp, then look at ours..big difference, and by ours i dont mean hatchery , i mean the true old line breeders birds..ours managed to stay a bit more toward american standard. australias have evolved into something that barley resembles american standard...the english standard is different than ours and there is not even a pic in my standard of a blk orp to use as guide for what somone expects of me.. .. and yes i showed one of hinkjcs birds at big apa show..something like 1200 birds at the show..lots of meets , best call ducks in the country at this show, three judges...entries from mass, NJ,NY PA, Maryland,Ohio...specials ect...ect..the birds won out of upward of 100 english birds , cornish, dorkings, orps, australorps, we got reserve champion english..thats how correct the bird was..everyone went nuts over the pullet i took, both blk orp breeders and australorp breeders were drooling over her...perfect little miss who needed about 2 more weeks to hit her peak... but she did get RV..so wish i had 10 more just like her..

in my opinion, what a shame it would be to loose american breeders efforts and what beautiful birds they are in person..somedday you would be sorry, the english came over here once to gather up some breeder birds..someday they might just have to do that again..and there wont be any.. i dont beleive in cleansing something..little like predijous and ethnic cleansing..try to use it and improve it if you can. , especially against something as good as some US breeder orps..they look very much like the origional imports by cook...classic blk orp faces on the ones i have..

since there is no picture in my sop, then i couldnt tell you, only australorp, dorking, cornish sussex everything but blk orp . and thought i was on different thread..ive seen both in person and sorry to tell you but other than a stringy tail and saddle feathers and bit wider butt, there wasnt much difference...us orps were most part bigger too..i have both and i dont like the tail feathers that poke out and have to be disguised at the shows..too much work for me.. maybe its the brit in me but i like a tidey tail..

the english buffs are fantastic..we dropped the ball on that one..blks our are almost a bit better when they are on some of thiers are fantastic too but ive seen extreamly good blks here..im hoping to get over to england next summer to a couple shows..i will take lots of pictures for your thread..have relatives there.

correct bird on american continent according to that standard ,,just look how austrslians have taken thier australorps to an art form..they used english orps and correct a lot of stubbing on legs and things..i sure wouldnt mind owning a few. im just not crazy about buffs, either american or english..but i sure love the blks..go to youtube, the federal english market champion and his girls are shown there, his name is hurcules

Not everyone likes the Imported English Orps; some prefer APA SOP bred Orps. That's fine. We all have different tastes. There is no right or wrong. However, most will agree that the imported birds are much larger than the standard bred birds. I have had both, and can testify there was a noticeable difference in size. No matter though, it is just what one's taste or preference is. We should all propagate what we prefer!

Anyway, this thread is about Imported English Orps, and the regular posters here just love them!

From page 1 on this thread...

Joy envisioned this thread to be a discussion between those who love the Imported birds, let's not get this thread shut down over bickering about standards.

There are many folks who would love to see just that happen... I wouldn't though.

im getting some next year, out of some champions so i will see..i have US version..

I think iit will be very interesting to see how the UK American breeders Orps stack up against our APA American EXHIBITION breeder's Orps. Many here seem to think that the commonly seen Orps that are AMERICAN on this site are a good representation of what is shown in the APA events. And these are folks who do not show at APA events. I think the Crossroads Show will change a few minds of who dare to go, on what is a HUGE Orp that gets shown here in the States. I know cause I do show against the Doug Akers of the APA world. I've been to his farm, I now know what HUGE is.

Hi from Ga. I'm not a show person and have never been to a bird show. Since so many of you are claiming to be such experts on Imported English Orpingtons maybe you showed petition the APA or what ever you want to call your organizations to create an English Classification at the shows. Or maybe ( I don't know ) they have an English class at some of these show. How else can they be winning the awards that they are. You might also try encouraging the less knowledgeable instead of discouraging them. AT BUZZARDAIRLINE WE LIKE TO THINK ALL ANIMALS ARE CHAMPIONS.
