The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Quote:
I am not an EXPERT. but I do show my Orpintons regularly. You can show UK Orps and they will be judged to our APA SOP. There is many who have show a hybrid of APA American lines and UK ENGLISH line Orps and have done very well. As like most people, JUDGES at these shows are the same. they all have their own opinion on how to judge an Orp. Most who do judge at APA events do not raise Orps. The few who do are the best to gauge what you have. I like judges like Doug, or Paul Monteif who do own and show their Orps. They raise to the APA SOP. BUT, still can appreciate the traits offered by the UK Orps. The chance of the APA excepting and allowing the UK SOP birds to have their own class will not happen soon. You would do better to encourage the unaccepted varieties like Chocs, Jubilees, Lavs before you will ever see the APA have a UK Orp. I personally like the varieties the UK Orps have in their SOP. I can see that someday we MAY have a few accepted here. But it will be decades down the road.

Joy envisioned this thread to be a discussion between those who love the Imported birds, let's not get this thread shut down over bickering about standards.

I agree, Jeremy. Let's stay on topic here.

I would suggest that anyone can refer to the original post if you need to be reminded of the topic. IT IS NOT ABOUT SHOWING OR STANDARDS.

There is no way you can get the two confused once you have had your eyes on a true imported English Orp. How can you get this mixed up with a American Orp. Why dont we just stay with what this thread was made for, Joy where are you at ? HELP !!!!!

Well my just turned 7 month old pullet has steadily been giving me eggs for the last week.

I am surprised given her size, she is much bigger than my other pullets were at that same age and they didn't start laying till they were 9 months old. (all of the from the same blood lines) I just love her, she is such a sweet and calm girl.

For size comparison, that is a full grown silkie to the right of her.

Here is my just not 6 month old cockerel who has now surpassed his dad in size and his dad is no small man! He is just going to be a monster.

Pardon Biggies tail, he is in full blown molt, sure hoping his sons tail comes together better as he matures more.

Not a great pic but you can see him behind his dad and already much larger.

the federal market champion is the federal market champion of england...just thought you might like to see him sorry i was wrong...and answered a question and guess that was wrong too..if the topic was ENGLISH then thought you couldbt get much closer than to see what thier top champion looked like..my fault i popped into the wrong thread by accident wont do that again.

and i said i am not crazy about buff orps just not for me but am madly in love with blk orps.. so always looking to see whats out there and now im a little sour on ever wanting to look again..i think we should be very proud of the efforts of american orp breeders who try so hard to make the best representatives of a foundation breed..and i also think we can hold our own with some of them in top competitions with careful selections and breeding..personally i am very proud of american breeders for all thier efforts..english came to claim some of them back at one time to improve size in thiers ... its right in those old books written by the foundation books in ENGLAND including william cooks..they may again someday. wont look at them agian. so not to worry.those old guys who wanted only the best would probably turn over in thier graves after all they pronoted them here..and we are admirers...i thought maybe somone was going to sell me some in here..im not afraid to spend more than what they want..again my mistake..you sold me a plan to really not much want to look look now. then agin, i know about 2 breeders who have english orps and a better additude so maybe money better spent there, cause i travel a lot and show and represent the breeders with thier best.could have been a good situation

Hi Everyone - I've been MIA for a while due to the death of my husband's uncle and some other stuff going on here, but wanted to drop in to say a quick "HI" and to tell you all that your pictures are beautiful !!!

Most of my birds are molting and I am getting very few eggs. Winston is in full molt and looks terrible !!

Hopefully I'll have some time soon to participate here more.
