The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Folks - let's keep the differences between the UK Standard and US Standard out of this thread. This thread pertains to the English type ONLY. If you wish to find information on American Orps, there's another thread for them.

Thank you.

Ok, here are some pictures of Mousse and Swirl in their new home. They still need the chips on the floor and we are building them a more permanent aluminum roof that will be pitched to keep the snow load off. Lav Orps have moved in next door to them.

I thought you would like to see them Jeremy. They are so cute. Mousse is such a little piggy, he tries to hog all the apple. This is the first time I have seen him call Swirl over when he found something good, he usually tries to steal it from her. Guess he's growing up a little.

"Baby" roosters are the cutest, it's so funny when they start learning to be big boys. He looks like he'll grow into a wonderful roo!

Question:

My 6 month old part American part English flock has not started laying yet. The girls aren't even "squatting". The Roo (Max but we call him "fat boy" mostly:lol:....has done a little 1 legged dance a couple of times but he is yet to try mounting (that I've seen). Do roos mount hens that have not started ovulating yet? Is he waiting on the girls? Is he slow?? How many of you find you have to trim vent areas when trying to breed? (hoping that isn't necessary in the future)
Thanks for your help!
