The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Wow, they are really beautiful! What is the difference between the "English" and the Buffs? I am new to chickens and just got my first five baby girl Buffs from a neighor.

My girl layed an egg today after being on strike for the last month!!!

I have now put her in the breeding pen so

this egg is fertile. She is with Biggie for those who remember him.

Hoping for some outstanding offspring from the two. Now if my two blacks would come off their 4+month molt strike I would be good.

ps- she won Best of Breed & Variety as well as Reserve English Champion this past weekend at the Smithfield show.

CONGRATS !!!

My girls have finally started laying again after months of no eggs. Goldie laid her first egg on Monday !!! Now I have got to find a GL Cockerel so I can try to get a little flock of GL up and going. Wonder what the chicks would look like if she were bred to Winston? GL mama and a blue daddy?

I think you should do some test eggs between the two and see what they look like, you could always send them to live with me.

Do it you can get BGL and also blues with better lacing on blues (not that yours is bad). F1 offspring will be Blue and black but when bred together you will get all sorts of things.

There is no difference between a Buff and "English." Buff, Blue, Black, GL, etc., are varieties of Orpingtons. "English" refers to the imported Orpingtons from the UK where the look and standard of Orpingtons is pretty much entirely different than the American Orpington.

Take a look back at some of the pictures and you will be able to see the difference in appearance....the differences are pretty staggering.

Okay, what is BGL? Black gold laced? Hmmm, I'm definitely not anywhere close to an expert with genetics, but how many generations would it take to produce some GL?

Tricia - if you want to have a bunch of chicks, I'll try and hatch some and see what we come up with. Maybe work on a GL project together? LOL.
