The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Bama,

It takes a lot of practice to AI. Our mutual good friend showed me how and made it look so easy. I ended up almost killing my chocolate cockerel doing it.

You must make sure they have an empty stomach when you flip them to catch the "fishies" or they can aspirate!!!!! Oh yea, good times..........

It's not that easy, unless your bird has been trained very well and you have them plucked like that one is. There is also the issue of size you have to deal with.

Pips I was so amazed when she told me what a easy time she had AI ing Charlie who had never been AI ed before. Also he is a big bird. I don't know if she is able to AI him by herself or if she has to have help. I have never seen a video of AI ing a big bird. I know i would have to have hands on instruction.
Kathy Working Bantam to LF would make the project go faster I think.
I don't know that I would have the time it would take to do that several times a week to keep the eggs fertile. I would still like to know how. You never know when this type of knowelege could be helpful in gene pools. If any of the rest of you get this down. Let me know and maybe in the future we can all meet up at a show and have a class.

Oh, I don't think I have the nerve to do AI. I'd be so terrified.

I commend all of you brave souls who have done it or who are entertaining the idea.

Jeremy your so funny. I am not afraid. Being a retired nurse and having helped with surgery, inserted catheters, started IVs and drawn blood and lots of things probably most people wouldn't want to hear on here I think I could do it just wouldn't want to injure a bird through ignorance. Training is always good. I am not going to try it without on hands instruction.
I know our Friend who has Charlie tryed it after being told how to do it and didn't have much success. It was only after hands on instruction from someone who knew how that she achieved successful AI
