The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I live in town to but they are out there,
This one found him self a nice warm hole in the ground about 3ft deep.
My birds comes way before any possum, He had a bad day.

About 10 years ago I guess, I went to the coop to gather eggs, it was coming dusk, I stuck my hand in the nest and geez, I almost wet my pants. There was a possum all curled up in the nest sleeping. Oh my, scared me about to death. Needless to say he had a long sleep after that. lol I can't stand those over grown rats. My biggest amount of wild animals are ground hogs. They've been here for years and have a family of 3 - 4 babies every years. I've never known of them to bother the chickens though. Coons are around, sometimes I hear them in the woods at night but I haven't seen any of them close for a few years. Oh my, varmints. Just can't leave us alone.

Our little section of the city is a lot like the country. We all have lots at least 1/2 acre in size and some just sort of leave that back part alone. Behind me they run a landscape company and have a large dumpster full of who knows what all the time, but I do know the workers lunch leftovers get thrown in there since the crows like to leave bits of foil and such from it around. So there's plenty food opportunities for the wildlife around, not to mention the crazy guy next door that feeds everything he sees (animals that is).

But they've yet to bother the chickens. Yet.

we also added a bad little dog in a fence right next to the bird pens..So far I havnt seen any this year..its early yet, but this little dog in his heated house seems to be a problem for them..he earned a bad day..those are some important birds..

I have a hen that's trying to brood...

ALWAYS when you don't want them to sit, never when you actually do want them to raise babies!
