The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I am only familiar with Julie's Charlie babies and her babies from Tubby. And can say, like Julie has, to really know what you got, you need to let them grow out till at least 7 to 8 months old. There was a few who told me at 4 months to cull all of her boys I hatched. And now the thought of even letting my Splash cockerel being taken off the property is outta the question. He is too nice and too valueable to me and to the rest of us who are trying to make some nice UKers. He went from ugly hatchling to the cockerel who fertilize my golden eggs from her Splash girl. Definitely expect changes leaning towards greatness. Be patient is what I say.
OFCOURSE I am talking with my only experince being Julie's babies. But, Joy has the same blood and more so running through their veins. Nice chicks!

Good morning Royal Blue people!

As long as we are in the identifying mood- I still have doubts about my two blacks, Joy and I both thought one might be a pullet, now I am wondering if both might not be? I am basing it on the fact that Maximus and the other light blue in the Minerva hatch have more comb and wattle. Max especially.
Here is Max: he is not fully feathered out yet, either, his back is just starting to feather- and look at the legs!

Then here are the two blacks:

And here is Skoche, just to make Joy smile!

Good Morning to you too, Royal Blue Beth QQ

- Well, I'm usually good at sexing, but I'm sure missing the mark lately. Best guess - one of the blacks is a pullet, the other a roo. I think Skoche is a pullet too, but hard to tell since he/she is so far behind (which I am sure will change in the next few months). Maximus !! Oh my !! He is going to be a beauty !! Look at the legs on that boy. He looks REALLY good. And look at little Skoche. She looks as sweet as she did when she was hatched. She has the sweetest little face and she really was a sweet little chick. I miss having somebody snuggle under my shirt !!!

Well, since I have blue Cochins, I'd like birds of another color. I do like the gold-laced English Orps. How/where does one import? How much does it cost? Guess I could go with Lemon cuckoos -- where do you get them?

Joy, you could always talk to your DH about that last sentence - hehehe

Well, I was hoping to get a trio out of these beauties, and I am delighted with Max also - he started strong as a chick, and I am hoping he finishes strong. If I get one black pullet and Skoche I will be more than happy. And that gives me three more roos to choose a backup.

You have to find a breeder in the UK and go from there. You can go to the USDA website or call them to get information. As Beth said, it is time-consuming and expensive. For me, it was definitely worth it and I'm glad we went through the headache and expense.
