The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Oh, I know that I have to breed blue to blue to get splash. I know that, statistically, it should result in 25% splash. Unfortunately, my orps have minds of their own and don't like to follow conventional rules.

Contrastphoto and I have hatched dozens of eggs and have loads of blues and a few blacks to show for it.

Just like last year when I only had black girls and was hoping to add some blues, I hatched out 90% black chicks. Even though it should have been fifty-fifty since I was using Thor, my blue cockerel.

I need to start chanting, "MAN, I wish I just had a few more black and blue. It would really, really STINK to hatch out a splash..."

The last clutch of eggs a broody hatched for me resulted in 3 Splash chicks and 2 Blues... that said all I have wanted for months now are BLACK chicks. The saddest part is that it is genetically impossible for my flock to produce Blacks (because Neville is Splash) so at least your birds are just being stubborn! LOL.

I have a dozen eggs saved up right now, 3 eggs that I know with certainty are from my 2 favorite hens. I'm contemplating whether or not I should try to sell them or just turn on the incubator and put them in.

I just shipped out some egg orders... YOU know... it is a sad day when folks that work for the postal service CAN'T read!!!.... I clearly mark all egg boxes not once but TWICE with HOLD ... call for pickup followed by the persons name and phone number. STILL the knotheads put the box on a truck sent out to deliver.

Oh this infuriates me! The boxes are stamped all over with FRAGILE Please Handle with Care and the box arrived with one side smashed in! The eggs managed to arrive intact... Thanks to the foam blocks and bubble wrap. Now we wait.....

yeah, this year has been the worst for shipped eggs coming in for me. I have only gotten called twice for about 8 boxes, all said call for pick up. Good thing for us is our carrier doesn't bring out boxes that don't fit in the mailbox because the mailbox is a mile from the house, so I get a notice, unfortunately all it does is make the eggs another day older because the notice doesn't get there early enough to pick up the same day

Our post office is real good about calling us to pick up our hatching eggs. But, we also have several near here that get hatching eggs. The post office keeps our list of phone numbers so they can call us. Real nice folks.

My PO has been wonderful too. I made all the delivery guys "Godfathers" to my koi over the years I wasn't in poultry, and now they are curious as to what I'm up to. I wave my pink fly swatter, that passes for my magic wand around here, and tell them that they are now God parents to some Orps. Seems to work. No matter what they deliver, they always ask about "the kids".
