The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

LOL hey if it works.. do it.. lol My post office here is wonderful... For instants.. I alerted her to the fact I had goslings expected to arrive... She called me at 7:30 am to tell me the truck just dropped them off and to come get them even though... the office wasn't officially open yet. :) The post office that took the eggs out for delivery is in Washington state.

I have delivered eggs, after hours, to our post office loading doc. As long as the pre-paid shipping label is attached they will accept it. Now waiting on that early morning call that my Buff Ameraucana eggs are here! Just could not resist grabbing them on a swap thread. We had an Easter Egger hen and the kids loved her eggs. These will probably end up as the wife's layers. However, they are a top exhibition bloodline so one of the kids may end up showing them.

What people need to do is call the post office and let them know that eggs are going to be coming in and Im sure they would be happy to call. Thats what Ive done with ours.

That is a very good idea :) I will make sure to recommend that to everyone that buys from me from now on.

Thank you :) never stop learning :)

It really does depend on your post office and your carrier in most cases. Some are cooperative but the ones in a large city tend to be more hectic and larger, so the folks there can't and won't give you any sort of personalized service quite often. Many times I've gotten eggs marked Call for Pickup delivered to my house. But since I'm home, it's fine with me. And they all leave stuff on my porch if it doesn't fit in the box anyway. Course the porch isn't 5 miles from the mailbox, either. I now tell mailers not to even bother putting that on the box.

Just please remember that it isn't the guy that is delivering the box that put that dent in it or smashed it. Who in their right mind would do that knowing they had to face the very customer it is going to? Many do rush up so much that they don't read "fragile" and might drop it before your very eyes, but also keep in mind that it's undoubtedly suffered worse droppings many times before that guy ever saw it. I might say something like "Oh that's what Fragile means! You drop it!" if I saw that though.

Another note: Don't put "Hatching Eggs" on it. That makes people think the eggs are, at that moment, hatching. Put "live embryos" instead.

- retired postal worker

PS: I have actually seen this: Two guys sorting packages. One gets a package marked "Fragile" and carefully walks over to the correct bin and sets it down. Guy two gets a box of encyclopedias (back in the days they mailed them) and just drops that box right on top of the "fragile" one cause he didn't look in the bin first and see the "Fragile" one.

I was browsing this thread & couldn't help but ask is there anyone here on BYC that is selling some jubilee orpingtons? I was thinking about maybe importing some, but everyone so far says its too expensive buy in state from a breeder. But how do I get in touch with a breeder here. Greenfire farms is soo hard to get a hold of lately. So I thought I would post this here.

If any one can at least point me in the right direction I would be Very greatful. PM me is the best way to get a hold of me lately, so just let me know

thnx
