It's a pretty color. Like a chocolate laced. Pretty.

I prefer it over lav.

OK, question if you all don't make fun of me

. I keep reading about you all going from Bantam to LF. How difficult would it be to do the opposite?

I have one cockerel that is half the size of the pullets. The cockerels are about the same size, the pullets are about the same size. The little guy in question is active, eyes bright, curious, not skittish, has beautiful bold lacing coming in, eats well (pardon me...also has normal droppings), he's actually quite a delight. But....he is TINY! He does get picked on since the cockerels are now acting out, but has learned to hang with the pullets. Since he is so tiny, I believe, he is more coordinated than the other cockerels and is much better at flying.

Could this little guy be bred for a bantam project? I don't have the room, but he's so cute. Wouldn't breeding him to a small hen eventually produce a bantam? Is there anyone out there with Gold Laced Bantam Orpingtons?

Update on my chocolate cockerel...

He still sounds wheezy, like he's aspirated, but it isn't all the time. He also has an impacted crop. I fed him olive oil bread and massaged his crop until he pooped. I'll do it at least 2 more times today, too. I think he has a double whammy going here. Maybe someone stepped on his head/neck while he was bent down drinking and aspirated him? No idea, but he's one of the sweetest of the 4 - even though all 4 are sweet. I don't know if I should go ahead and give him a shot of Tylan or not - in case he is aspirated. Darn chickens.

What stinks is if he does pass, I don't have the $ to replace him.

I am so sorry. Must have missed the thread where you had mentioned he was sick. Keep us posted.

Poor guy. :( Do you have any Oxine? Maybe try a little of that in the water as an extra measure. All sorts of funky stuff can grow in this kind of heat.
