The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Like these?
Yes, like that one. Were your chick's eyes green first, and then changed to another color?
Deek, a lot of chicks start out with green eyes and they change color as the bird matures. I have seen chicks eyes not develop properly if they are kept strictly indoors, natural sunlight does have it's good qualities.

My business partner has the UK standard, I will have to check to see if they are accepted and get the "official" word. The US SOP for golden laced dottes is reddish bay.

OK, thank you. Didn't know that. Funny, 20 yrs ago, all premature human babies were charted as "blue eyed" until the mature pigmentation developed. Thanks Jean.

I too have ordered the UK standard for myself and a BYC friend, but it will be several more days before I receive our copies. I was hoping there would be enough Golden Laced Orp owners on this forum that could tell me. And, perhaps even tell me if their GL chicks had green eyes and then change. This morning I emailed, Dr Jim Batty, and perhaps I will hear from him shortly also. Sometimes it takes several days.

Thanks everyone! Either way, my babies are soooo loved. They will be beautiful regardless of the standard description.

Yes they change the eye color

Does either one have a tail? Pullets get a tail early, and the Ks take forever in my buffs. How old are these?
Both of them have a "nub" of a tail... but I'm looking at facial features too and there's NOTHING wattle about them. Either of them, and they're nearly 6 weeks old. The blue pops up to my lap and literally cuddles..... as for Daryl (the Splash) I was pretty sure of the fact that he was a he, but he's a peach too. Must be the breed...... have others that are soooo pesky.

There's a tail on both... but only a weenie one. Anyone wanna change their sexing?

(sorry!)

Actually I'm just guessing..........I don't do very well with my own, I have an English Lavender that I am waiting for her to either crow or lay an egg...........

I say the splash is definitely a boy based on comb and stance. The other could be either one, boy or girl. Stance says girl. Comb says, wait till it either crows or lays an egg.

New pics!
