Yes but if your not monitoring those zip tied bracelets every day.....you could loose a FOOT... or a whole chicken....One of my young roos nearly lots his foot.. I dont like them things for my birds

I don't breed or show, but I make sure I check them on a regular basis.
I only use them to mark who I got who from.​

For the frugal, small flock owner, if you order the plastic ring bands in white you can paint them with nail polish of different colors and only buy one bag per size vs. one bag per size /per color.

Some of you might know of someone selling a variety pack, that would be even better. Please share if you do.

I get mine at a discount store and they do sell them in multicolored packs (sometimes they are in the clearance rack at smaller hardware stores). But then again, I don't have that many birds.​

I have used both the split rings and zip ties. There are issues with both. Cons... The split rings come off and the zip ties don't.

If it is imperative that your poultry stay marked (as in banded ) the split bands may not be a good choice. I have found them in the floor of the coop and not know who belonged to them (I think that is the safety idea)

. I like the zip ties the best BUT you MUST monitor them. It is not so much the cost as it is the dependability. But the chickies grow up before you know it and will out grow their zip tie - they will never ever come off till you cut them off.

The zip ties must be changed several times before the chicks fully mature. When they are several months old you can usually put it on loose enough to not have to change them again. (but should still be checked regularly). I order them in a rainbow of colors and some times use 2 or 3 bands of different colors for different reasons (age, breed, breeder).

But PLEASE if you use zip ties, it can't be said enough, check them, check them, check them.

Oops forgot to add, I check them at night with a flash light. That way I don't upset the birds and I can go down the row looking at everyones band (zip tie) changing them if necessary. It beats chasing them around the yard in the day

(I am much too old for that ).

Yeah, I guess if can be a little tough catching the silly things when they're loose!
Mine are just pets and there aren't that many of them so it's a little easier. I just check them regularly and replace them if needed. I just use them so I know who I got them from if I have the same breed from different people.​

I'm not to old for it but just don't care to put on a show for the neighbors. They like to sit in thier back yard and watch my chickens.
