The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Very nice, Renie!
I am so glad I don't have one though. I would be buried in birds.

The co-op finally got in the wheat I have been waiting for. Last month it was $15, now its $17.75. And no rye to be found

Adorable! Have fun with them.

Thanks guys... it is a dream come true for me...I feel so very very blessed..

We have a small house... and no big barn like some folks do.. I have to behave brooding chicks in the house. My husband is ok with it for the first 2 weeks until the dust starts showing up... Then he starts complaining. I can't blame him... Soo I try to keep everybody happy.

I've heard covering them with cheese cloth will cut the dust down somewhat. Keep hatching.

This is meant to go on top of the brooder box over the covering wire not directly over each chick just wanted to clear it incase a Newbie misinterpreted the instructions.

Took a few photos this evening. The birds would not cooperate at all.
I needed a break and they were just what i needed. Sat in a chair for and hr watching them.
Here is my blue pullet six month old. She is really a pretty girl just a bit dark for showing but will make a great breeder this fall. She is going to be really large.

This is six month old black with a excellent comb. He really is nice boy. He just will not be still for a pic. Always moving.

Another blue cockerel six months old. Trying to decide whether to cull or not. I keep changing my mind daily thinking just keep him another month.

LOVE the splash girl!!! Wonderful comb on the black. You ought to give lessons on how you select for combs.

I like the splash. They are all nice, look like mine. VIVI
You will have to post some pics of your splash for us to see.

Thanks dragonlady. I don't know if I know anything except visual observation on each bird. Just breed toward what you want. I have to use ones with larger combs sometimes if they have something else I want to improve on then breed them hens with correct combs. Every once in awhile i get really good ones
