Thanks Dragon Lady and Roger. Irene what a blessing. Your hatching in style now. I love the clear door. I want to order one for my Dicki but I need to get a part for the turner first. I think it needs a timer and i am not mechanically oriented and neither is my DH. I am going to have to get a friend to work on it. Thank goodness I have some electrician friends.
I am going to start hatching a few when I get back from Guatemala. The weather should be cooler. With the price of feed going up I am not going to hatch very many though. I was able to get a 50 lb bag of chick feed for nearly 12 dollars at a co op but they said when this lot runs out it would be going up. It was nearly 14 dollars at my regular supplier. up by two dollars

Yep.. feed is going to be an issue. and Yes... I plan on getting a clear door later on. Vivi sent me the bator... I splurged for the water bucket, plastic egg crates, and the big tray to hatch geese eggs in Soo the door is going to have to wait for now. I plan on finish setting it up tomorrow and well you know me.. I just gotta try it out.. Soo Somebody has just gotta ask me to hatch chicks for them. lol

Ugh, I don't even want to discuss feed, just paid $18 for chick starter...

I have a question if someone doesn't mind answering. I have never noticed before how long my orps stop laying when they molt because there are 5 girls and their molt was staggered. BUT my jubilee hen molded a couple months ago and looks absolutely gorgeous but still hasn't started laying again. What is the approx time they stop laying for? I know it probably differs bird to bird but am surprised she is still on vacation..
