The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Love your Avatar Nellie!!!

OK, some of you remember my Drama Queen last week that kept yelling for a C-section! Well, apparently drama is normal around here.

This Friday's Drama:
Went to check on a chick that was taking too long. It had been 20 min since I had done so. No change. Just a pip and no zip. When out of the corner of my eye, I see a leg pop up in the air! Yes, another chick was born feet first! It had positioned its head in the small end of the egg (it was anticipating its big butt...makes perfect sense). I quickly placed it flat on the hatcher floor and POP out comes the other leg and body. Its head is still in the small end. I'm thinking ...oh please, don't let it have a funky head...after a few shakes...out comes the head! Its neck was crooked for an hour or so (do you blame her?) and now, it's perfect. You'd never know.

I will share a picture when she's dry. I am naming her Lola. (Some of you might be old enough to remember the song "What Lola wants, Lola gets"). That's what my grandfather called me until the day he died. Never once used my real name. Well, I was born breech also. The midwife had turned me around, TWICE, and I turned myself back, TWICE. My mother always said that the turning was more painful than the birth.

Here's the funny part. Well, the other funny part. I am naming it Lola, if its a girl and LOL if its a boy. Since his entrance was really funny, LOL, funny.

TGIF, everyone.
wonderful story Dee!! can't wait to see Lola's first photos!!!

Phew! Taken me ages to read through this thread! I will have to get some decent pictures of all my Orps when the snow goes and post them. What superb specimens you all have!

One to start me off... taken from my phone so the colouration doesn't look as it should!

It was getting dark so he appears darker than he is. My beautiful Jubilee Orpington cockerel that I'm going to put over my Lavender girls.
