The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

We're experiencing high winds and heavy rain most of today, and a few tornado warnings here and there. I've never worried about losing power before, but now I have a few eggs left in the incubator. If my power goes out what should I do? Blankets? I will have propane gas for the stove, would it help to heat water bottles? I have a small generator, but not even sure how long it will work. Ideas anyone?

If you have plenty of room in the bator fill some glass jars with hot water and put them in now they will act as heat sinks if the power goes out and yes cover with blankets. Good Luck!

I'm also worried about this bad weather Dee. I have a backup power source for my sportsman but it only keeps it going for an hour. When it happened before, I wrapped the incubator in towels and hoped for the best. You would be surprised how long they can hold heat sometimes.

Hope we don't have to worry about it though

Hope everyone is doing well with the wind we are getiing. I lost a plywood section off the backporch and it flew up landed on the roof and then over the house to the front yard. We now have a leak in the dining room. So far we have power though and that is good. I have two more eggs pipping in the house bater. I have a settting to hatch next week in the cabinet bator.

I have six babies hatched. As warm as it is they will be fine if it goes off till we can get it back on.
We cancelled our Church service for tonite cause we are supposed to get the heaviest wind and rain in about another hr.
