The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have had a few that pipped wrong end due to slightly disturbed/loose but stable air cell (shipping) and live. They took alot longer and needed some assistance with initial zip. I found that they needed extra time then to finish absorbing blood from shell membrane before getting out completely too. I made sure to throw a warm wet sponge in next to them to prevent shrink wrapping.

Partridge Hatch #2!
For some reason, I am having my Partridges all hatching 2 days late, on the end of day 23, instead of 21. Both this and my previous hatches were on day 23. Doesn't seem to have affected them negatively, they're nice, healthy chicks, but just seems a little odd. Is this common in Orpingtons?

Any way, here's some pictures, enjoy!

Congratulations! Sweet, sweet, little babies. Have you tried adding another thermometer, that you've calibrated, to check on the incubator's thermometer's accuracy? Judging by the chick's down, your humidity looks right.

ok our hatch is done got 5 black EO chicks from 8 eggs...the 3 that did not hatch died just before hatch probably on the 19th or 20th day because they had not absorbed their yolks yet...here is a pic of them!!

And they're doing the zombie walk.

LOL..They are so cute..so much fun watching the chicks hatch..Ive go no fertile eggs ..did a little test hatch..none yet..Did some plucking and trimming yesterday,,,
Mrs softie is my problem child, and she has 2 roosters this year...but no australorps yet either..should be better next time around..

Mine did the same thing. Piped, then waited a full 24 hours to make any more progress and hatch.. Don't give up hope too soon!

When you see them pip early on ... then take a long time to finish... There is a chance your humidity was too high... they were drowning and had to open up.. .but if you were to have helped them... I would be willing to bet they would have bloody butts..

Of course, it's pipped on the wrong end and hasn't made any progress in 5hrs. I hope it's just relaxing. I haven't had one pip on the wrong end and live yet.
Are you hatching with the eggs on their sides, or with them in punched out carton halves? I always hatch in cartons as the first hatched ones roll all the other eggs around too much. The later ones don't know which end is up. This does not happen under a hen as she keeps the later eggs in place.

I always cut the bottom out of the egg cups and hatch in egg cartons too, unless I am having to keep a certain group separate to identify. I wish I had some of those basket things Irene has for that. I think I could put a egg carton halved in those
